Happy Surgeversary To Me!

I did it! I made it through the first year. This has been the fastest longest year ever. I had a tough first 3 months battling pneumonia I contracted on the table and the a leak. I also had to have hernia surgery 8 months out. At times it felt like I had made the biggest mistake of my life and that I would never feel "normal" again.

I can honestly say this was not the easy way out and even with 1 year under my belt its still a learning process. There are foods that just plain scare me. My gas can clear a room and that some times has been a blessing as I have teenage children.

Yes, I started as a light weight and I told no one about my decision except my hubby and sister. I was 208lbs the day of surgery and I'm 5'5" tall. I was a size 12/14 and I'm 48 years old. Today I weigh 129lbs and wear a size 2/4!

My year labs were good, not great gotta up my calcium and really concentrate on getting more protein from food I travel a lot and it has been a challenge, but I'm focused and will take care of myself.

The best part of this whole journey is people wanting my diet secret, my reply is always that I caught pneumonia and almost died, the there are no more questions they just tell me I look great. Buying clothes, this has been insane as it is so unbelievable that I can buy a size 2. My brain is still catching up.

I had reasons why I chose to do this that weren't all medical and I can honestly say that I'm happy I did it.

Now onto the maintenance path. I'm not losing any more which is good, my BMI is 21.5 and my Dr doesn't want me to lose much more. So the next phase for me begins.

This site has been invaluable and I thank all who contribute to help others.
