Hi ladies! I have been MIA for a while but here I am needing support. I had my 6 month follow up appt today. Im really about 2 weeks away tho. Im down 70 lbs and feeling great! The health benefits of surgery have exceeded my expectations. Dr said i look great and labs are fabulous. He said to keep doing whatever im doing! :) so here is my concern.... he says that weight loss will slow down now (i think it already has) and i may not lose anymore. What is your experience with this? I am at the drs goal weight but not my goal weight. I was hoping to lose at least another 10 pounds. My ideal weight is 126 and i am at 140. 136 would get me out of the overweight catagory tho. So tell me, did you keep losing after 6 months? How much regain did you have? Is this it? Thanks so much guys!!!

I did but it was very slow. Keep after your goal. Don't give in.

I've had between 5 and 10 pounds of regain and I fight to keep it at 5. WLS just puts us on a level playing field. We still have to do the work.

At 5 months, I had a real slowdown.  I found that if I stayed at 30 or less net carbs, I still lost at least a pound a week and I went below my goal.  I kept losing for a year.  Some folks it takes longer but the RNY honeymoon is 18 months so you have time to lose it.  I did bounce back up but keep on keeping on and you will make it.  Bounce back is real and you want to have a little room for it.  So just keep on keeping on.  It will happen.  And really, you are going to keep on keeping on for ever because that is what maintainance is all about.

I am getting close to goal and still losing at 8 mths out.  I think you still have plenty of time to lose.  I lose a little less each month but it still is going down.  Here are some of my results copied from my profile.  You can look at my profile if you want the whole thing it is public.

You can go down as far as you want, you just have to work harder at it, right? More exercise and activity, pickier food choices.

It works if you work it; it sorta works if you sorta work it; and it doesn't work if you don't work it.

I am 9 months out now.

Mine slowed down drastically at 6 months. One month I only lost 5 lbs and the next I only lost 3 out of the whole month. UGH. I am not at my personal goal yet either.

I am down 77 lbs but it slowed so much, and it started before 5 months out. So it does slow but doesn't stop just yet.

One thing I learned from having the lapband for 4 years is after the honeymoon period, you do have to have made permanent changes to your eating and your exercise or activity. The weight can come right back on even if you eat a little bit too much. Or the wrong thing such as ice cream or frozen yogurt (my weakness)

I hope to stay off all sugar & white carbs now that I have the Rny.

I am going to use this honeymoon period as well as possible! Good luck with further weight loss! Tracy

As far as BMI charts go, remember the excess skin weighs something so maybe you really aren't in the overweight category. Also, once we have been obese I think we are different than those charts reflect. I would try to get a fat percentage test to know really how much to lose. Tracy

I reached my first goal, a normal BMI at 6 1/2 months, my ideal goal, 120, at 10 1/2 months and continued to lose until 14 months out, at which time I had to start eating more to keep from losing.  You won't be done losing until you take in as many calories as your body needs at that time to stay stable.  Finding that spot is the hard part.  Your weight loss may slow down but you never stop losing weight if you continue to take in fewer calories then you burn.  Having WLS doesn't change that, it just helps us do that.
