Day 4 preop and have had a headache the whole time. worried.
Are you on a preop diet? What is your preop diet (they can vary widely)? When is your surgery? What kind? Have you stopped caffeine cold turkey?
many folks, when put on liquids for a week or two before surgery feel horrible. Their body goes into shock at the major change all of a sudden.
Depending on when your surgery is, you can take something for the headache.
Don't equate what you are going through now with what will happen after surgery.
More information is needed to really be helpful.

Hi,
I am having surgery on the 19th. I have chosen RNY. I'm on protein shakes and broth for two weeks until the big day I have not had any caffeine well except some green tea the last few weeks. I did stop that a few days ago. I had forgotten about that haven't had any soda and don't drink coffee so that must be part of it. The green tea i mean. Thanks for your help. So glad to hear I wont feel this bad after surgery. It comes and goes. Drinking water helps and lots of trips to the bathroom. Almost half way there!! I'm grateful for this sight to help. Thank you!!
caffeine withdrawal is horrible for causing headaches. Best to withdraw slowly. That could be what is causing your headache. Try to get in 800-1200 calories and that should help. Also, you can have meal replacement protein shakes now, but not after surgery. If you need to eat, celery and cucumbers are safe until 48 hrs before surgery. Those were free foods for us while we were on our preop diet (4 weeks of 5 shakes a day optifast and 1 small food meal). I know it seems like forever but it will be here soon and you will be on your journey towards better health. Stay in touch!!!!

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! My first thought was caffeine withdrawal - but your body is getting a major shock. Don't be afraid to take something for it now... but after surgery NO NSAIDS!!! Tylenol only..
DO come back and let us know how you are doing. We love to have newbies partiicpate on the board and love to help!
