Good Morning. New Internet tax on web purchases - not

MajorMom

Ugh, I hope this bill fails. I depend so much on web purchases.  : (   I hate going to brick and mortar stores...there's rarely any help and you have to stand in lines to check out.  Total waste of my time.  {sigh}   Not to mention that a small web based business just trying to make ends meet will be burdened even more.  [stepping off my soap box]

By all the boxes I always have around to break down, you would think I never buy anything locally.  I have been trying to support some local businesses to keep them going but even with shipping, sometimes I can get the same thing so much less if I shop on line.  Plus I can do it in my pjs at 6am.  I was really angry when Sprint took off the help line from the website and now they want you to make an appointment at a store.  30 min away!!!!

Looks like we are going to have a decent day, even with the thunderstorm possibilities.  Hopefully Halley and I can get some work done.

It would generate millions and millions in tax revenue, so I could see where it would be passed.  But they have been looking for ways to tap into this revenue stream for years and haven't gotten it done yet.  Let's hope they stave it off for another couple of years.

For shut-ins, etc., it is often a primary means for buying many things.  I agree with you.

For some reason I thought it had already passed in Georgia and Amazon was just looking for a way around it.  I buy lots from the internet and save money and gas on the free shipping options and no taxes.  I think I pay enough in taxes and don't want to pay anymore!!

Work today.  Travel day tomorrow, so I'll be riding my 200 miles and leaving early in the morning.

I've been hearing about their efforts in this area for awhile now. Interested to see where we land.

Today I'm doing a light food shopping, cleaning a bit, and further job searching. Weather should be warmer today. Looking forward to the sun coming out.

This is already in place in California. I thought it was everywhere, but I guess not. Of course if California politicians could figure out a way to tax the air we breath, they'd do it.

Are you talking about the Use Tax?  The one every Californian ignores at tax time?

Even if they did roll out a tax on the internet purchases, taxing the buyers isn't going to work because no one claims to purchase anything from the internet.  It's like a voluntary tax!  It's voluntary if you want to pay it or not.

The only way they can tap into the revenue stream is to tax the companies selling on the internet - like sales tax.  And that will just drive more of the internet companies underground - so they lose income tax revenue off of them then.  This is the reason they haven't tried to enforce a sales tax on internt purchases.  They can't figure out how to enforce it and actually catch people at it.

You can purchase from companies outside the state, that don't have a sale office in California, and pay no sales tax either.

I love shopping on the internet!!!   I rarely go shopping for anything but necessities any more.

This past year we had to include on line purchases on our tax form. Amazon started charging me tax every time I order from them.  Maybe it's something they passed in PA.   It would be nice if on line purchases were tax free but even if it passes it won't stop my on line shopping.  It's still less hassle and I can take my time and make better buying decisions.

God is walking with me every step of the way. Because of HIM this is possible!!
