OT-Surprises as I mature
Well this whole periomenopausal thing has me thinking some strange thoughts.
I am so grateful I got my period Tuesday, because the awful pain in my breasts has been subsiding. Back in the day it would be thank goodness I am not pregnant!
Hot flashes, kind of a welcome relief from being the ice queen. Only have had 3 so far, so I am sure the novelty will wear off soon!
I am never too old to learn something new, and relearn things I seem to rebel against. Like poor eating habits. Simple carbs and I just really need to depart, never to meet again! lol
I am in better shape now at 47 than I was in my 30's.
Gratitude for what I have right now is so much better than hanging onto the regrets of my past.
Just some thoughts rolling around in my brain for the day.

Oh, I remember those days well. I went through it at 240+ pounds and it was horrible!! I took all kinds of things to try and help with the hot flashes and sweats.
I do much better when I stick with lower net carbs. Don't seem to feel nearly as hungry once I get them out of my system.
Hope you have a great day today!!
Linda
You are so right about the carbs. I don't feel the need to snack/graze through out the day anymore.
I was always so warm before my rny, that I would joke when menopause hit, you would just find a pile of ashes from the last place I was standing.
Did anything help that wasn't hormone replacement with any of the symptoms?

I started having hot flashes in recovery from my hysterectomy. They started me on premerin, before the days when we knew all the problems, and that was such a blessing. I never really had problems. I still "sleep hot" but other than freezing DH with the window open, deal with it pretty well.
I am so much healthier than I have been and so thankful for that. I love my life these days, even though the high stress days still get to me from time to time. If work would just get past all these transistions, I would be a lot happier.

I was 39 when I started the change, and by 42 yrs old I was done. Fortunately, a big recession hit when I was 40 and I lived off of my stock options for 2 years. I doubt I could have held down a serious job at that time.
I was literally a basket case. I was whipping through menopause like it was a zip line. I asked my mom about it and her advice was "Hang on. It's going to be a bumpy ride." She had a flair for under stating...
I didn’t want to take hormones because my aunts and grandmother died of breast cancer. So I just toughed it out. Crazy 2 years, but I was glad to be on the other side of it.
Sorry I haven't responded - there is no notifications when someone posts. Frustrating...
I did do the herbal/natural remedies. I had all the symptoms X 5, so it was really hard to see if it helped any.
The most helpful was my diet. If i stayed low carb, exercised every day (long hikes), then I could contain the mood swings better. I also did volunteer work, and got a new dog (a bullmastiff pup) so I didn't have time to contemplate my navel lint. That also helped keep me out of trouble.
