17 days post-op and extremely tired...

Hi everyone,   I had my surgery (RNY) on the 4th of April and the doc says I'm recovering well.

I am getting my liquids in, my vitamins and most of my protein (work in progress).    The only thing that I am having a hard time with is this feeling of exhaustion.    Anything I can do?  I will be returning to work on the 29th.

I also was graduated to stage 3 foods Thursday... I'm not really liking how eating more solid foods make my new stomach feel.   I would guess it's all part of the process of getting use to the new me?

Have a nice evening,

Stephanie

Welcome to the LWs/

It takes a while to recover from major surgery.  Energy comes back slowly and it will but it isn't fast.  Did you have labs before surgery?  What was your D level, iron, B12?  I know my D was low before surgery and I think my energy came back as my D went up.  I know at 6 weeks, I would be up and active all day but ready for bed at 8;30 and sleep all night.  yes

I was so ready for each new phase and didn't have problems with any texture or food.  But it certainly is normal for folks to have problems adjusting.  Just don't pu****  It isn't a race to get to all foods and consistancies.  Just do what you can, concentrate on your protein and fluid.  You will get there.  If something gives you a problem, wait a week or two and try again.  It is a lot of trial and error in the beginning because we are all different.

It will improve, just slow.   For the first while I was back to work, I had to take naps in my car at lunch time.  Rest up and if you dont feel like you can do it, ask your surgeon for an extension of your medial leave.  I went back after 2 weeks but only part time for a while with my drs approval.

Stephanie,

Congratulations on your surgery.  It will take some time to get all your energy back.  Try to walk a little bit each day and a little further each day.  That will help some.

Be sure that you chew your food really good if you are not mushing it up.

Good luck.

Linda

Congrats on your surgery!   I wasn't working at the time I had mine done but I do remember how tired I was.  It's strange because one day I was tired and then all of a sudden my strength seem to bounce back.  Getting your Protein  and all of your supplements in should help.

God is walking with me every step of the way. Because of HIM this is possible!!

Thank you Everyone for your support.

Another topic... How do I get my surgery type and surgeon to appear on each post?  I've searched all the settings but can't seem to find it.

Welcome to the loser's bench!

Sounds like you are right on track. Make sure you are sipping and getting your fluids in.

Congrats!
