body compostition

so as many of you know, I have been unhappy with my gradual increase in weight and have been working for the last few weeks to get back to a number I am happier with.  Actually 124 put me in the overweight BMI catagory and that has been killing me.  but today they had a Tanita body composition analysis machine at the gym so I went to be analysed.

I was thrilled.  My body fat was19.7%, I am actually in the underfat catagory with healthy range being 24-36%.  My Total Body Water, hydration basically, was right at the top of the desired range.  Supposedly, my BMR, basal metabolic rate is 1295 or that is what I should be able to eat with no exercise other than normal movements and not gain weight.  Exercise would increase the amount I needed to eat to stay the same.

so all this working out and weight lifting has been doing wonderfully for me.  Even if I am technically "overweight" by the BMI charts, I am under fat which means I have more muscle (and maybe heavier bones?).  And I can live with being overweight from muscle as long it isn't fat.  I still would like to get down to about 120 but I am happier now on my way there.

That is great news Price.  You are so dedicated to your work outs.  I really need to get on some muscle building exercise.

Have you felt some of your strength come back since you have been doing the body pump?  I have no strength left at all.

I do feel stronger and so much more able.  Things I wouldn't have done last year, like today walking all over the farm with the 3 gal back pack sprayer on my back was no big deal.  I can load and unload my carriage into the trailer by myself easily.  I still can't carry a 50lb feed sack for very far but I never could anyway.

Thanks for the info.  It sounds like a Tanita body composition analysis machine is a good thing to try to see where my body fat and muscle percentages are.

If you don't mind me asking, how did this machine work?  Is it like an exray?  How is your body fat measured?
