hanging skin

I THOUGHT that since I was a lightweight, I wouldn't have issues with hanging skin. HAHAHAAHAHA... Okay now that I have stopped laughing at myself....

I am down 60 pounds. Still 30 from goal. My arms have a little hanging skin and my belly is really hanging.... Are their exercise to do to firm the skin. OR just use spanx and fix it surgically once weight loss is complete?

Exercise will not get rid of the excess skin BUT it can help it look better by firming the muscles underneath.

Depending on your age, genetics, and how long you were obese will work for or against you.

In my case...against...been obese since 12, I am now 58. And genetics is against me too.

Yep, Liz is right.  Exercise helps what is under the skin but not much but surgery gets rid of it.  lenght of time you were overweight, genetics and age all play a part.  I was doomed but I look good in clothes and at 64, I'm not getting naked often anyway.

Michelle, I don't know yet if I'm gonna have any problems with my skin on my arms, and other body parts, but I do know my neck already looks like a turkey :-(

Oh, I so understand. I have some serious bat wings going on. I have to use compression pants or capris to use the treadmill or run to keep my belly and butt skin from slapping me around. Oh, and the turkey neck thing has me wanting to hide when it gets close to Thanksgiving.

I'm terrified of loose skin on my legs... I have been over weight since I was a teen, but obese last 8-10 years or so. I am going to be so upset if after all this work I will not be able to wear shorts or skirts/dresses

I too fear that I'll not be able to wear shorts after I reach my goal weight of 135lbs. My highest weight was 250lbs., I started my journey at 229, surgery weight 216.8  I sincerely wish you the best of luck.

I hope that everything works out well for y'all.

Have a nice night.

Nothing but surgery gets rid of excess skin..

But as it was said, with time (depending on age and genetics) some of it may firm up.

I was 40 at surgery 3 years ago at 256 lbd and had been near that weight for at least 5 years and over 220 lbs for 12.  I am 5'-6" tall and have been at 165 to 170 for 2 years.  I was a slow but steady loser.  I'm happy with my weight now even though it's 27 BMI but I'm around 25% body fat.

I have some sagging skin under my arms and some on my lower abdomen.  I strength train at the gym and the muscle helps disguise it.  I was comfortable enough to wear a bikini on my last beach vacation.  I typically wear Spanx if I'm wearing a tight fitting dress but most people do anyway.  I wear sleeveless dresses from early Spring until it cools down in Austin.  I think the little higher BMI helps me with the skin.  My general Dr, surgeon and trainer at Golds Gym think I'm fine at the weight I am.

I might do a tummy tuck and breast lift at some point but I'm fine as is.  I think I had reasonable expectations and with my age I don't look any saggier than most others my age.

Good luck to you!
