Soft Food how do you tell if your full?

Today is my first day of soft food-2 weeks post surgery:-).  I can have 1/2 cup of egg beaters and made that but got maybe 4 bites and I think I am full.  I am burping up food. Nothing bad just a little.   Hard to describe.  The very hardest part is not being able to drink and eat.  That is going to take some real work.  I made sure to put my liquids on the counter away from my food.  I tried eating very slow. Can anyone else share when they feel full?

What type surgery did you have?

It will be awhile before you will be able to tell if you are full, that is why it is so important for you to weigh and measure everything you put in your mouth.  I would think that 1/2 cup of egg beaters would be a lot of food for you.  I could only do 1-2 ozs(cooked) at the very beginning and it was mushy blended food nothing like eggs.

If I eat slow enough, my nose will start running when I get full.  If I continue eating when I know I am full, I will feel miserable for a hour or two.  I am over 3 years out though.  You would not want to overeat at this stage and risk damaging something.  Other people get other signs like hiccups.

Good luck,

Linda

I had VSG.  I scrambled the eggs and chewed them as much as I could.  I am on what the doctor calls Diced Protein and Smooth Foods so can have tuna, cottage cheese etc.  I am just trying to figure how I will be able to eat enough food to get all the nutrition but can tell I might have to supplement with protein drinks in the meantime.  I put a lid on the rest of the eggs and plan on trying a little Tuna for lunch.  I will try to focus on protein first and as I can eat more add the others.  I tend to be the type that wants to do it right and it's hard when I have on my plan to have the egg beaters and applesauce but can't get through the eggs.  I am sure it will all work out a little at a time.  Thanks!

I never had a good full signal.  I just measured each serving.  We were to start with 1/4c and were told to STOP anytime we felt full even if it was after 2 tiny bites. In the beginning we ate 6-8 times a day plus all our liquids.  Eggs are hard for a lot of folks.  I still, 2 yrs out, eat 1/4c eggbeaters but I do add cheese and kale (didn't at your stage). What you are feeling is perfectly normal.  Just go slow and stay on your program and you will do great.  Getting your protein in right now and liquids is the most important.

At two weeks I had soft poached eggs and then really chopped them up and chewed them to a puree.  I still find poached eggs much easier to tolerate than scrabbled eggs or egg beaters.  I believe I could almost eat a whole egg at two weeks.   I'm almost 3 months out and I weigh everything because an extra mouthful or not chewing enough hurts.

Just make sure you get your protein in.  I was 2 weeks out yesterday, but have been having softs since Sunday.  Eggs have been good with me.  I had a really hard time with talapia last night.  I too chewed until the food had a liquid like consistency before swallowing.  I get full so fast.  I only got about 1/2 in and could not sit down because it was so uncomfortable.  Had to go and lay on my side.  I too, burp..don't know why?

Still drinking shakes because I can't eat enough protein.
