Ugh...weekends

Thank god this weekend is nearly over. I just can't seem to keep to a low carb menu on the weekends. I start off strong, and then get side tracked. I attribute this in part to the fact that my restaurant or food stop places are dictated by my guy's 7 year old daughter. But in large part I can just feel myself giving in.

I'm absolutely choosing to eat poorly, which is why I take full accountability for my behavior. What I really need to explore is why I'm making poor choices to begin with....what's driving it? I suspect that it is a combination of a sense of entitlement to reward and resentment that I need to live a low carb life forever and ever. Said another way, a need to comfort and celebrate with food (because I have yet to find another way). And further...I"m pissed at myself and the world that I only lost 80 pounds from the surgery and have gain 20-25 of it back.

I know I'm a Debbie Downer and have been singing this song a few weeks now. Just needing to keep saying it out loud.

You realize what's going on  - and that's half the battle.

I know it's hard when we get our of our routines - and weekends can be a b*tch.  Hang in there.  Know the cause and effect will get you through!

Yep, I have a hard time with weekends too.  Sometimes it is because I am traveling and am eating what my hostess is serving, sometimes it is because damn it, everyone else is having a glass of wine, cheese and cracker, why not me?  sometimes it is when I am home and my son is home for the weekend so I am cooking carbs and just differently to fill him up.

One thing I do to help is find carb stuff I don't particularly like to cook for DH and DS.  So I could care less if I see pasta again ever and love the sauce so I can eat spagitti sauce and they can have the whole thing.  Stuff like that.

The other idea for eating out is to find something you really like and is WLS friendly.  I try not to settle for something when eating out because then I am resentful.  I may go over carbs or fat a little but at least I like what I am paying for.  Like getting fried fish when I go out.  I never fry it at home and would be resentful if I had to get it baked when out.  If I can get the fish fried, I am perfectly willing to give up the hushpuppies, potato, all that other stuff.  It might not be the BEST choice, but it is a choice that is better and I don't resent being "on a diet" or get into the diet mentality.

I'm with you on the fish Price.  If we go to a fish place, mine will be fried.  I can skip everything else too.  I usually end up bringing another piece home with me because I do get a salad with a vinaigrette dressing and that kind of fills me up.

I feel your pain and agree.  Weekends are the hardest.   Out of the weekday routine and I find myself not only eating poor choices (chocolate) but not taking my meds and vitamins on the weekend.  Makes no sense cause I have more time than on workdays!!!  There is a lot to be said for a routine even if it is boring.  Sing the song as often as you need.  It helps us all keep our **** together lol

Weekends are the hardest for me.  Especially if we have the grandkids.  This weekend I did not buy the usual junk for them and they were perfectly happy without it so I guess it is just me wanting to give them the extra junk food.

I've decided to take Sundays off and not log my food on Sunday.  I'm not going to go crazy, but I will probably have more carbs and maybe sweets than I would during the week.  I guess it is some kind of reward and I know we should not reward ourselves with food, but I am hoping it will be my motivation to help during Saturday.  I do better during the week at work.  Mine was bad at night and weekends.  Hoping if I give myself a kind of free day I can look forward to it and stay the straight and narrow the rest of the week....

I think we all have to find what works for us.  Good luck.  Stay connected here with us because I know that helps.

Linda

Great ideas. Maybe I'll book a day of rest too, especially on the tough weeks.
