Good Morning. Check Your Azimuth

Thanks Gina for the suggestions.  I have been taking apprx 50 mg with VIT C three times a week (my surgeon did not feel like I needed to supplement when I saw him at the 1 year mark but I saw a small trending down and he was okay with me starting this...although I wouldve done it either way!).   I take sundown perfect iron (carbonyl).   Where do you find the profferin?  Can you buy it in a regular store?  What do you think of bariatric advantage 60 mg....I had some samples so have thought about this option as well.  I do notice some affect of constipation on the days I take the carbonyl now so am a little concerned about that (I rely on miralax every other day so can go to once a day if needed).  I also need to address my period as this is not helping matters yet birth control options are more complicated post surgery due to malabsorption...I was going to try the patch but my copay was $40/month...NOT!

The Baritric Advantage is fine. It's carbonyl.

I think you can only buy Proferrin ES online but you might be able to get a doc to give you a script for Proferrin Forte. Proferrin forte is the same iron as the ES but contains folic acid.

I hear you about the meds. They just stopped making my hormone replacements and the replacement cost me $50 for a 30 day supply. The old generic was only $9. {sigh}

Thanks for answering my question on mixing.  Is the Tender Iron the red pills in the morning packet sold by Vitalady?

Proferrin ES:  I buy it from Colorado Biolabs.  Online.  And I buy 2 large bottles at a time to save on shipping costs.

I checked and the only difference between ES and Forte is the added folic acid.  But I could buy either one without a prescription.

I doubt I could get Kaiser to prescribe it, but I'm willing to ask the doctor if they will.

The Tender iron is a big orange capsule. Is that what you have?  She also sells a chewable iron tablet similar to the Bariatric Advantage.

Oops, I'm color blind.  It is orange.  So that is the Tender iron.  I have not been able to do those, they make me sick.

I thought I would start 'training' myself at the end of April.  Start out with one, then build up from there.

Absolutely a good idea to build up on the iron. I got sick the first time I tried to take them all too.  Ooops!  Anyway, start with one a day for a week and see how you do. Try them with a little citrus fruit away from everything else. The second week if all went well, add a second capsule and so forth.

Yeah the insurance racket gets old!

I checked out the profferin site and they will send 30 to try for shipping only so will see how I tolerate that.  Do you take vitamin C to help with absorption and is it better to take iron with food or on an empty stomach (I know to separate it out from calcium)??

One thing that made me laugh is when my dr asked if I was still supplementing with protein and I explained that I made protein ice cream out of a shake and make a protein coffee each morning...he wanted to know the details and said I was a mixologist.  This made me laugh as I learned it all from you all and continue to pass the knowledge on....I get frustrated with those that don't get enough protein in.....it's not a question...figure out a way to get it in!!!

I still take a vitamin C but not with the Proferrin. I guess you can but it's not required.  It's probably better to give iron the least amount of competition as you can. If eating a little citrus fruit works for you and the iron, that's fine, but I wouldn't put it with anything contains fats or oils.
