I am sorry for your loss. It is hard to lose an animal, pet or otherwise. It is really hard when one is just a baby. But, I know you will get through it. There was probably nothing you could have done if you were home. I also think you are "tough enough," good ranchers and their families care about their animals and their land. I would be more worried if it didn't upset you.

Most of us don't want to see  where our meat comes from... but that's so wrong . The fact that you CARE deeply about your animals is what THEY feel which makes everything all  right .

Its also easy to forget that strains of semi-domesticated  livestock animals wouldn't even continue to  EXIST at all if they were not  eventually to be eaten or milked .  What matters is that we manage these processes  humanely , gently , lovingly .  It takes a strong woman to raise healthy cows and calves !

Brava !

I have read this thread several times and felt like i wanted to respond but wasn't sure what I wanted to say. For sure,my hat is off to you being a ranchers wife. i could NEVER be a ranchers wife cause i would make PETS out or every animal we had and that would be the end of a profitable ranch cause they could never be butchered, sold or done anything with except loved on.

I think what bothers me is your statement
