I'm age 56, 5'2" and had 90# to lose for normal BMI. I chose VSG because I beloved that reliable restriction would be enough. I never considered the band as a viable option.

At almost 5 months post-op, I've lost more than 60% of my excess weight, so
am pleased with my progress. With the daily discipline in place to follow my food plan, the process has been trouble free and I'm looking forward to goal and lifelong maintenance.

There is every reason to be hopeful and you deserve surgery just as much as anyone else. Never forget that, so please give yourself this life enhancing gift.

Welcome!  And NO band!

I was 5'2" and 208 when I started my journey, and my goal weight was 125.  I think you'll find you will lose  more than the 60 pounds you think you will... and be very pleasantly surprised!

I had those same thoughts - other people would love to be where I'm starting, but they're typically not 5'2".

I did this for my health too.  I saw myself heading down the road my dad went... and it wasn't good.

Take control of your life now - while you can!

Hello , welcome! NO BAND! I'm 5'1 my BMI was 33 at time of surgery. I'm now 138-139 . 8-9 more pounds to go. I chose Vsg because I didn't want malabsorbtio plus being 60 pounds over weight DS OR RNY was not offered.  I believe the band can just cause more problems , wearing a hole , vomiting etc. my gal friend had the band and always has to have adjuatnts , she throws up alot and now had slipping.  Vsg , cut and done! Good luck and don't think twice about WLS. just do it!  I had and have No health issues . Just getting bigger with age . Not any more .....I hope😉

I was 225 when I started looking into WLS but 191 the day of surgery. And 51 years old. So very similar stats.

Yes, there are lots of people worse off than us. I feel sorry for them that they didn't get to a point where they could get WLS sooner, but I figure that's not my problem. I wasn't willing to wait until I was bigger and sicker and it was less likely to work. Sometimes they try to make me feel bad for being smaller the day of surgery than they are 5 years out. It doesn't work!

I have RouxEnY in 2 weeks. I chose it because I want my remaining stomach left just in case I might need it later. The sleeve allows too much leeway in food choices and my friend who had it last summer isstill struggling to reach goal.
