labs again

I have gotten most if not all of my labs in from by 2 yr draw.  My Dr post them as they dribble in but I think they are all in at this point.  Only a few things which are out of whack.  My PTH has been low since Feb but no one seems to be concerned about it.  My ALK phosphatase was high.  Range is 32-91, I was 150.  I've been high since my first lab in 2010 and no one has ever questioned it but this is higher than it has been before.  My D3 is back to 63, better than 57 but I would take it a little higher. Ferrintin is still treading down, now 58 so I will have to me better about doing my iron.

Any comments are welcome.

I guess that low PTH is just unique to you--I don't get it either. I'm glad your D3 is coming back up. That iron will have to be more consistent; I understand that RNYrs can have a heck of a time with it the further out they get. I don't think the ALK is so high as to be worried too much. You're doing great. : )

BTW why would someone increase their calcium coz their PTH is high (I know that Price has the opposite issue), but I've not fully grasped the relationship that PTH has to other things.  TIA.

When you see PTH on the high side it usually means the parathyroid gland is working too hard to pull enough calcium from your bones and teeth to keep soft organs, such as your heart, functioning. A high PTH usually indicates you aren't taking enough calcium and a low vitamin D3 means you wouldn't be able to absorb calcium all that well even if you were taking an adequate dose. It's a balance of the 3 components; calcium, D3 and PTH that tells the story.

remember they had me lower my calcuim and D3 after my labs in August.  So now I am doing 1100mg calcuim in 3 doses, 3000mg dry D3 everyother day.

I think I need to ask for a dex scan.

I'm surprised they haven't wanted to take a biopsy of your parathyroid glands. A dexa scan would be a good idea especially if you have an earlier one to compare it to.

Really, that seems scary.

I have had regular bone scans but no dexa scans that I know of.  My PCP does them so I don't imagine they are anything special.

How many points do they check on your bones scans?  My dexa is usually my hip, spine and wrist.

Do some research on the parathyroid glands and see if you can figure out how they are treating you and what they might suspect.  Sometimes docs will jump on a biopsy or a scan when PTH runs too high--just thought they might want to check them out but I really don't know what they might be looking for.

Same points for the scan.  I'll check into the glands.  See the dr on the 5th.  thanks

PTH is low.  what is high is alk phosphatase which I just read could be from a bone fracture.  So maybe my knee replacement is causing that.
