Reintroducing myself, and finally had my surgery
VSG on 10/09/12
Hi everyone! I posted on this forum a while ago when I was supposed to have surgery in January...then it got postponed to end of April and finally I had it on the 9th of October. I was a nervous wreck, fighting myself all the way, up to the walk to the OR! But I did it and I am so far really glad I did. I didn't have any buyer's remorse so far either. Surgery went well and I could not have wished for a smoother recovery. No pain, no nausea, able to drink everything...no hunger. I actually asked my surgeon if he did anything in there or just put in the port holes and then sewed them up. Apparently he also repaired a hiatal hernia and warned me that I would have pain swallowing, but I didn't. I went down 15 flights of stairs abt 48 hrs after surgery as there was a fire drill at the hotel...good timing! Apart from a couple of days of a low grade fever I really have been feeling great. My energy is the same as ever, no headaches inspite of carb and coffee withdrawal. Really I feel that it was magic. Don't know if its my constitution or his surgical skill or what but so far its right on the mark. I have lost 14 lbs since surgery. Incisions are healing nicely too. I am on purees now and starting soft foods and mushies next week. See how that goes. Purees have been just fine. I eat a maximum of 2 oz per sitting and I stick to breakfast lunch and dinner and have protein shakes as a snack.
I am getting about 500 cal a day for now and about 60 protein. Couple of times I was up to 70 protein. Hope to be able to get most from food once I start eating meat. I love meat and chicken and fish so it should be doable. Also no trouble with liquids since day three post op. broth, water, G2, tea, protein shakes, diet cranberry, it all goes down well.
I feel very lucky! Hope to be able to feel the restriction soon, I know its going to be no earlier than when I start solids.
Oh and my blood sugar has been normal since day three post op too, and blood pressure also lower than my normal so I am going to scale back the meds soon I hope.
The doctor said I could start exercisong - swimming and the treadmill or eliptical but no weights yet. So off to the gym tomorrow. I hope this continues to go well!
Looking forward to being an active member here. Take care everyone!

Sounds like you really did have a textbook surgery and boring recovery.
Don't rush away from your protein suppliments. Most of us vets have found them very helpful well into maintainance. Now to just keep on keeping on and be amazed at the changes.
