Low Ferritin and Calcium
In an effort to insure my current health problems are not bypass related, my surgeon drew a bunch of labs. Ferritin is 15 and Calcium is 8.3. Everything else is low normal. I'm trying to get back to a good vitamin regimen but still often forget my night vitamins. I am going to set an alarm on my phone to help me remember.
My question is how low will my ferritin have to get before I need iron infusions? I have fibroids and need a hysterectomy but no one wants to do that until we figure out why my cauda equina is inflamed. I think an IV boost of iron would be better than trying to increase it orally. Especially since my calcium is low too. I can't take 3 calciums and 3 iron pills a day without them interfering with one another.
Any input? Thanks.
BTW, I've been on vacation to my moms for 2 weeks that's why no posts. I am walking without a cane! Strength is coming back too. Sometimes I can even pee a little without a catheter!!! I should be able to go back to work in December! Yay!

I think they wait until it gets down to the single digits before you get infusions.
If you take heme iron, you can take it at the same time as calcium but you can also take a lot at once so you don't have to. Carbonyl iron is supposed to be better at raising your ferritin though.
