First Surgeon Meeting?

Hi everyone!  Just a quick update on me since I did an intro to this board a few weeks ago.  I got set up to attend a 6 HOUR orientation for the on post (Fort Gordon) bariatric pathway program which I will be attending next Tuesday.  I'm kind of nervous, mainly because I knowim a lightweight, and at the two previous seminars I attended some ladies made a comment to me that I didn't even look like I needed surgery (I'm 5'4 and 221 pounds) and I didn't really know how to respond, so I kind of just smiled and shrugged my shoulders?  Anyway, I will have an opportunity to ask the surgeon questions and was wondering if anyone had a good link for sort of a checklist of important questions in case I forget something.  After doing a good bit of research I think I'm leaning toward the sleeve if anyone has some good questions directly related to that surgery.  I really appreciate your help!  Did anyone else feel kind of awkward at these classes/seminars being a lightweight?  I'm sure I can't be the only one right?

I didn't get to ask questions until the surgeon's consult but I'm sure folks will chime in that are newer and remember what they asked. lol I do remember going to the first support group the week of my surgery and they wanted to know how far out I was, implying I looked post-op by a couple of months. Smile and tell them you have several comorbidities that the WLS will help you deal with if you want to give them an explanation.

I was at Fort Gordon for a conference and the hospital was very nice. I had to go there for my back while I was there. I hope they take good care of you.

Oh dear... I had those looks and questions "pre-op" too.  Just say, like Gina said "comorbidities".  They know what that means.

I can't help with Sleeve questions, but many here have had the Sleeve.

Best of luck to you!

Good luck at your orientation.  Don't let anyone make you feel like you don't deserve the surgery.  You will be so much healthier and you deserve it!!

I don't have any sleeve questions because I had RNY, but keep us updated on your progress.

I would want to know what you have to go through to get approved, if there is a 6 month diet, support requirement, and what follow up care the program offers.  You want to make sure that they do have a follow up program and they don't just send you out on your own.  Is their a nutritionists you can contact later if you need to?  You may not get to asked questions at the orientation, but may have to wait until your consultation.
