Cramps & Muscle Twitches

I am going to call my surgeon tomorrow. I'll have to talk to the nurse and then she will talk to the doctor so it is usually takes 2 days.  I thought I would start with him and see what he says, if he has anyone that has had this problem.  The cramps he thought were from needing more magnesium or needing more hydration even though my numbers were ok.  If he has no idea, I'll contact my PCP or maybe think about seeing a neurologists.  I'm pretty sure no one around here is familiar with RNY because the only thing they do anywhere near here is lapband.

I get the twitching and jerks of my legs, even before surgery. Mine was diagnosed as restless leg syndrome. Just an idea for you to consider.
Hope it gets better for you.

Thanks Candy.  I'll mention that to my PCP.  My grandmother had that and my dad has it so it is a possibility.

The twitching sounds like RLS to me too...

I also thought I had Restless Leg Syndrome and was treating it for the last 10 years...then I had my varicose veins treated and amazingly enough, it did help the twitches. I am no longer taking any meds for it.

There is not solid medical evidence of this but my vein surgeon said he has had reports of that happening.

Liz, the veins in my legs are really big now and you can see them now where they used to be hidden under all the fat.

I have an appointment with my PCP Thursday morning.  I'm going to mention RLS and the veins to her.

Thanks.

Linda

I have had episodes of this when i was 1 ) severely dehydrated

                                                                         2) forgot to take my calcium citrate /magnesium . D  pills for many days

                                                                          3) forgot to take my horse chestnut extract ( Venastat) which  keeps varicose vein issues away ...

dont know which of these or ALL of these   are necessary to stop the problem ... but when I am on top of these  I HAVE no cramping issues whatsoever  despite being  on my feet all day....

good luck

Thanks,
I stay very hydrated and hardly ever skip any of my vits.  I take magnesium daily and make sure it is an easily absorbed type.  My surgeon does not seem to think it is related to WLS.

I have cramps too. No twitches yet.  I also hydrate alot like you.

My labs are good too.

I cannot find the problem either.

Please keep us posted as to what is working for you.

We want to know.

I would love for the cramps to stop.  They get me out of bed at least 3 X's a week.   Always worst at night when trying to sleep.

The only meds I take are Nexium and Yasmin plus vitamins.  I  don't think there is a relation to the meds.

Never had this problem before my sleeve surgery.

I will definently let you know what I find out.

My surgeon said he does not think it is related to my WLS.  My labs were all good so he does not think it is related to that either.  He recommended I go to my PCP and see what they say.

I have an appointment with her Thursday.   I'm going to discuss Restless Leg Syndrome and the Varicose Veins that were mentioned.  RLS runs in my family, but I didn't read much about it causing twitching.

Do you run a lot?  I did for a long time, but have stopped for over a month to see if it got any better and has not made a difference.

I would not think those medicines would affect it either.
