Question - Protein Intake

Hey All!

I'm just now really starting to pay very close attention to my nutritional intake.  I'm very cautious with my carbs and focus quite a bit on getting in veggies (and some fruits).  I make sure to eat some sort of protein throughout the day, but I haven't been keeping an eye on the quantity.

So I went looking through my paperwork from my surgeon to see if there was anything there on how much I should be eating at this point in time.  I couldn't find anything.  So, before I pick up the phone tomorrow morning and call his office to ask, I thought I would post the question here: How much protein should I be trying to get in daily?

Mind you, I just started back eating around the beginning of May (I was on an IV for my nutrients for about 3 weeks after I got home).  Also, I can manage to eat maybe 1/4-cup of food at a time (and only if I'm really hungry).

Thanks in advance for any help, tips and/or advice you can give me!

Your surgeon's office will likely tell around 70 but most of us feel best with a little security blanket and shoot for 100 grams or more.

My surgeon's office said 60 - 70, but I usually get in atleast 100 grams a day.  That includes 3-4 protein shakes.  I feel better when I get in 100+ of protein.

Okay, so as a base I should get a minimum of 60-70 grams in a day.  But, the goal should be about 100 grams a day.  Wow, that's a lot to work towards!  But we all must do what we must do, right?

So are there any suggestions on protein sources?  I do like the taste and quality of the Syntrax shakes, but would love to try protein bars as well.

Your best bet is with the Syntrax shakes. Get a base of 3 a day and you're golden.

have you had labs done lately?  I have to keep my protein over 100, more like 140 to keep my protein level good.  I get about 90 in shakes each day, then the rest in food.  I still eat protein first every meal and have 4 meals a day plus my shakes.

Nope - no labs done lately.  I am due for them before my next appointment with the surgeon, which is about a month away.

I'm really hoping I can get this all in.  I still eat/drink so very little at a time.  I do try to eat no more than every 3 hours, but it's still so very little.  I'm drinking constantly, but I know I'm not always getting the 64 oz required.

It helps both the protein and the liquid when you combine them.  Although your surgery was a while ago, you still are like a newbee and no one expect you to be perfect.  But try hard to get that liquid in cause it is really important.

Definitely feel like a newbie still!!!  But that's okay.  I have all of you here to turn to for advice and guidance on what has worked for you.  I will work extra hard to get both my liquid and protein in, Price.  Thanks!
