Good Morning. Container farming for the suburbanite...

...doesn't work for raising a dairy cow or 2--darn it!  I keep reading about folks finding ways to produce food for themselves in the suburbs and I'm just about ready to give up. I don't know how I could raise sustainable protein here. Beans and peas ain't gonna do it, folks. The closest I can come is chickens or rabbits or goats and keeping those outside isn't allowed in our subdivision either. Home Owners Association is worse than the EPA, Dept of Homeland Defense and whatever else you can think of. I guess I keep stocking my shelves with protein powder and freezing 1/2 gallons of 1/2 & 1/2...maybe buying powdered milk.

I need to order vitamins this week...anyone in NOVA want to go in with me to save on shipping?

I have grown edemame for the past 2 years but they aren't exactly a good container crop.  My suggestion would be TVP, not to grow of course, but to keep in storage.  I just tried the chicken flavored and have been using the beef and sausage.  It is so much easier than thawing and cooking ground beef/turkey/chicken to use in receipes and I can't tell much difference.  I use it in spagitti sauce, taco bake, soups, etc.  I have put it in meatloaf and it is fine there.  I haven't tried using it alone to make a burger cause it doesn't really stick together live hamburger does.  It is dehydrated so you just add liquid before using it or dump it straight into a liquid like soup. My regular health food store just had unflavored but the store associated with the 7th day adventist community has all the flavors and I think they are much better than the plain.  Nik of Bariatricfoodie has some receipes for those of you who cook with receipes.

Vet and Farrier coming today to work on Chili.  Lets hope he will be sound and able to play at the pleasure show this coming weekend.

Yes!  I need some Proferrin - I have a bunch of the Carbonyl Iron, but do think my iron was in the "better than usual" category because of the Proferrin.

I also would like some Bariatric Advantage chewable vitamins.  I bought some from my surgeon and WOW - they were expensive.  I think I can get some cheaper from her.  I'll go on her website and let you know exactly what I want.

Actually, I was thinking about this this past weekend - but I need to have a double stock of vits - one here and one in MI so I don't have to pack them up to go back and forth.  All my "extras" are in MI, but they're not what I take on a day-to-day basis.

I need to get your lawnmower back to you too.  I'll be officially moved out this week.  Now I need to clean it - UGH.

What flavor of multies do you want and how much? Gotcha on the Proferrin. Let me know soon if you want anything else.

We can come get the lawn mower this weekend. Let me know if it needs to be earlier--maybe Wed afternoon?

I'm having the house cleaned tomorrow and figured I'd mow the lawn for the last time while they're there.

I still have stuff in the garage (like a motorcycle), so unless you want to get it Wed, it could wait until the weekend.

I didn't get a chance to get on Vitalady's site today to see what flavor of vitamins she has.  I've always like the Watermelon, but she doesn't carry that one.

My DD & SIL live in a neighborhood and they have chickens, rabbits & a dog.  They were furnishing us with eggs, but changed the feed and they stopped laying.  They don't have any kind of HOA though.  I don't have any excuse because we live on almost 10 acres.  We don't even plant a garden....  DH says it is enough to mow the grass.  Maybe that can be one of my retirement things I do.

Work today, need to finish payroll and some other end of the month things.

In our area there are local land owners *****nt out  small areas for those who can't have a garden at their home.  There might 30 or more small gardens on this piece of property.  Maybe there is someone in your area who does that.
