Carbs and weight gain

I am 8 weeks out and yesterday we went to a birthday party at a restaurant.  My hubby and I got spinach dip and shared it.  I mostly at the spinach dip and only had a few chips.  The rest of the day was fine with good protein and nothing off plan.  Today I gained a pound!  This happened a few weeks ago to when I had a steak soft taco it seems like any time I eat any amount of carbs I gain weight!  Does anyone else experience this?  I am diabetic so I watch my carb intake anyway but even with those few things with more carbs I gain a lb!  Am I ever going to be able to eat carbs again?

We fluctuate DAY to DAY!!! You can gain several LBS just from water, but then it will come back off.

1) Weigh just once a week at most.
2) Track your measurements monthly.
3) Track your weight to see if there is a pattern thruout the month. Many women, pre-menopausal gain just before that TOM.

I watch my carbs too...usually as they go in my mouth, :) I was an insulin pump dependent diabetic so I understand carb counting...I have been anal for years.

Most can eat some carbs after they get to goal, some can't...also track your food in a log for awhile to see if there are hidden carbs somewhere.

You ate such a small amount I wouldn't think those few chips caused you to gain weight.  How salty was your food?  Did you have less water yesterday.  Did you potty?  All those will make a difference.  I've learned when I eat Chinese food to expect the scale to pop up even when I do not touch the rice.  The salt causes me to pop up as much as 3 pounds for a couple days.  Since having surgery, I am really sensitive to  the salt etc in Chinese.  You will be able to eat carbs again.  I eat them in moderation but try to eliminate them completely as much as possible and eat them not too often.

Thanks guys!  I know I am a scaleaholic, I just can't stay off it.  Now that I have slowed down a bit on weight loss I am trying not to weigh myself everyday but in the begining it was such a motivator and I loved seeing it go down every day!  I really don't mind not eating carbs and getting them only from my veggies but I don't want to never be able to eat them again!  So this week my goal is to do everything right and not get on the scale until Sunday!

I have to agree with the comment about weight fluctuating day to day.  I know mine does that.  I'm very sensitive to salt, so I'm always paying close attention to my intake.  It never fails - my weight will be up (water weight) if I've had something salty the day before.

I also have an addiction to the scale.  So I keep mine put away with the idea of "out of sight, out of mind."  Seems to work for the most part.

I was a scale-***** too... I weighed daily - and I tracked it whenever I lost.  I had it in an online program and honestly, it helped keep me sane.  When I thought I wasn't t losing for 2 weeks, I'd look back and see monthly trends.  Not just 1st of the month to 30th, but maybe 10th through the 10th.

I know it seems like it's the carbs doing it, but it's not - just like the others said, you'll fluctuate, water, salt, etc.  You're still VERY early out too - you've got quite the journey ahead of you!

It was most likely the salt in the food that made the fluctation.

I agree it's probably the salt. Dips and Chips are extra salty.

Something elsethat  makes my scales go up is if I watch my calories  really close because I know I'm going to be eating something different then I seem to gain.  I think I actually eat less on those days.

It's the salt and the carbs but at 8 weeks, I bet chips aren't on your plan.  Stick to your plan.  there is also a ton of fat in spinach dip.  Use this early time to change your eating habits and establish new wonderful ones.  Yes, in the long run, you will be able to eat carbs, but hopefully it will be mostly from dairy, veggies and fruit and not from white flour, sugar.

the thing about chips is that for every 1 gm of sugar ( aand chips turn into simple sugar the instant they hit your mouth) your body has to bind 2 gms of water to process the sugar.

It can take up to a week for that fluid to be realeased aand usually by that time you have eaten "just a few" more chips again and the process starts all over which equals no weight loss or a temporary gain.
