I had read about the "foamies"  prior to surgery, and I unfortunately experienced it today after eating a small bit of chicken breast.   It was awful. had to leave the office and hang out in the restroom for about 30 minutes.  I think i ate too fast maybe and it was also very dry, but I know I didnt eat too much.  I hope it never happens again! I will pay more attention to the instructions on soft foods.

No dry chicken again! any other pointers to keep this from happening again beside not eating too much?  I weighed out 1.5 oz,  so I know it wasnt that.

We are supposed to go to dinner at friends house tonight, and they asked me what I could have and I told them a little bit of Salmon -  that should be okay right?

Hope everyone has a great weekend. TGIF!

You are right   foamies are the pits.  I have done it 2x, you would think I would learn my lesson after once.  Both times it was steak and I ate too fast and didn't chew well enough.  Salmon should be fine but remember tiny bites the size of a pencil erraser and chew, chew, chew.  For me it wasn't the amount, but the size of the chunk that hit my tummy.

I hate to tell you this but it WILL probably happen again. If something is too dry or you dont chew enough or sometimes for who the hell knows what reason this happens. It is probably too soon for chicken. Hopefully the salmon goes down okay although often I stick to VERY soft things after the foamies for the rest of the day. I havent had them for while and NOW know to stop when something doesnt sit right. Papaya enzymes sometimes help but usually time does it. Thankfully this occurs less often as times goes on and I havent had them in awhile but they ARE a great deterrant when I think of eating something I am unsure of (this is why I still havent tried bread, rice, pasta, sugar, cake, etc yet....this and fear of possibly dumping). IT is worth it.....I promise!!

Get some Papaya Enzymes - when it happens chew 2-3 of them, wait a bit, then 2-3 more.  Really, they work.

I've the foamies way more than I can count.  I often didn't know what made it happen, but yes, dry protein can make it happen, especially early out.  Be sure to dip it in a ranch, or some other type of sauce to moisten it.  Pretty much anything to block your stoma can make it happen.  I've had it happen with a spoon of peanut butter, then drink some milk.  Not fun.

Salmon should be ok - but have you tried it yet?  Not something to try at a party for the first time.  Stick to what you know won't make you sick.  I find Salmon (unless it's sushi) can be dry too.  Be careful.

So - don't eat too fast, or take that "last" bite when you know you shouldn't and eat too much.  Those all can cause foamies.

I have never thrown up since my WLS - but during the foamies I wished I could!

I have noticed that eating something moist helps me. It has happened a couple of times but eating cottage cheese or yogurt or a sauce does seem to help. Once in awhile though something I have eaten several times before just doesn't sit well and I can usually tell right away and I have learned to just stop and step away from eating or drinking anything until the feeling passes .. Walking helps a bit.

I haven't tried the papaya but sounds like a good natural way to help. I have had ginger and that does seem to help me.
