Had a my labs done and dont understand my PTH at all.
I am usually really good and interpretty labs and helping others with there labs but this one has really got me perplexed and my Endo as well.
My vitamin D is 85
My calcium is 9.2
My PTH is 127
this makes no sense. Why if my calcium and D are both so good, is my PTH so bad???
A little over a year ago, all 3 of these were perfect - my
vitamin D was 110,
calcium 9.6 and
PTH was 26
then out of the blue my vitamin D skyrocketed up to greater than 150, couldnt be measured so I had to make changes to my D, stopping at first for a short period of time then going back but just a lower dose. This sent my D all over the place from greater than 150 to 112 (in 2 weeks) to 85, to 50, back to 85 and has stayed pretty much around 70 - 85 since. My calcium has been around 9.2 pretty steadily since but my PTH is what has not recovered.
The 26 steadily went up, a few months ago it was 68, last draw it was 98 and this draw 127. I dont understand. I am taking Dry D3 = 50,000 units 2 times per week and cant take more than that with my D level, when I took it 3 times per week is what sent it over 150 and not sure if it had anything to do with the start of my with the start of my kidney stone problem. My calcium - I am taking bariatric advantage - chewies - 6 per day.
I had a DEXA scan the other day - 1 year since last one - I have Osteopenia in my hips - 7% worse than last year. My spine actually got better and my wrist stayed the same.
Any ideas why my PTH is so high?

It sounds like the parathyroid glands are disfunctional and wildly over or under producing. Has the Endo not talked about any possibilities at all? A growth or anything?

I have been having so much trouble with resistant UTI's that are landing me in the hospital constantly - started out monthly, then every few weeks and now I just got out last friday and I am back again. It turns out that even though my kidney stones arent obstructing anything, they are still causing infections - so as soon as I get off the antibiotics, I get the infections again and I need IV;s. It is terrible.
I need to have them blasted again but due to the severe complications I had the last 3 times, my urologist is afraid to do it again - needed transfusions due to severe bleeding. She wants me to go for a second opinion in NYC which I have an appointment at Lenox Hill Hospital with a Kidney Stone Specialist on Tuesday but dont know if I will make it out of the hospital to get there. I may have to reschedule.
All these infections are beginning to affect my kidney are they already scarred and something called lobbular as per the CT scan. I am wondering if this is part of the problem with my PTH level. I will talk to the Urologist in NYC and also if my Nephrologist comes to see me this weekend. it is a tough weekend to get sick since it is a Jewish Holiday and most of my doctors wont be around - I have to see covering doctors, so I am not sure who will be coming.
It sucks to get sick on Holidays.
I will keep you posted.
As far as my Endo, we never got to talk about it, we were busy talking about the kidney stuff and my DEXA scan.

I agree with Gina...
