Ok.... So I'm almost a year out.. I'm 10 lbs. below my goal weight and would really love to start looking into reconstructive surgery or as I call it putting things back where it belongs or putting the puzzle pieces back together... However I'm pretty sure that affording it will be a challenge.... Does anyone know of any assistance programs?

The only thing I have heard is to document any loose skin issues you are having if you want insurance to pick up any of it.  There is a plastics board here but I have never been on it.  We do have some folks who have had work done and they would know more.  Congrats on your loss.

You mean of assistance programs, where they pay for your surgery, or assistance programs, such as loans?

You may want to check the Plastics board - there are always questions about how people pay.  From what I've seen, many borrow from their 401k's.  That seems drastic, but PS is tough to get financed sometimes.  Some open 0% interest cards for a year, etc.  Some Dr's participate in a medical loan program, but the interest rates are quite high, and they have to pay a fee to participate, and they want to pass that on.

As far as insurance goes, my insurance paid for my tummy tuck.  I have Fed BCBS.  When I was initialy doing my research - I talked to several offices that "took" my insurance, but said it wouldn't pay - you just have to find the Dr that knows how to bill it properly.  Unfortunately, it's one of those procedures where they didn't "preauthorize" - but the Drs office knew the requirements and billed after.  It was rejected the first time, and paid the 2nd.

Now - my advice to you regarding timing of plastics.  Most Dr's want to see you maintain your weight for a year before you get anything done, BUT - many don't.  I had mine TT 15 months after my surgery, and my breast lift/implants a year (almost to the day) after that.  Ok - the advice part - wait for awhile before you have anything done.  Your body keeps redistributing what fat is left (even though you may not seem to have any - there is some there).  If you have bounce back (like I did after my procedures) - it's got to go somewhere...

Go get some consults with some reputabel surgeons in your area.  First look at who your insurance participates with, then if they say it won't be covered (don't call the ins co - they'll definitely say no, as they read out of a book).  You may want to try your state board on OH too if they're somewhat active and ask about PS and if people were happy with them and their results.

It's a lot to go through, so be prepared!  Both in knowledge and mentally.
