Lightweights: How much did you lose at 2 weeks out? (RNY)

I am two weeks out from RNY (9/27) and this morning I had my first surgical follow up appointment. On 9/27 right before surgery, I weighed 238.2, and today I weighed 225, so that's about 13 lbs in two weeks. Why am I not excited? I'm okay with the result, but I guess I was hoping to be one to lose at least 20 during the first 2 weeks. I know it's not good to compare yourselves to others, but I guess I need some support...someone to tell me that I'm on track?

Honestly, I couldn't be doing anything better (that I can see). I am on soft foods now...and I feel so full after eating about 1/4 cup of food 2 times per day (although I can have up to 1/2, cup 3 times per day. I am getting in 64 oz of fluids. I am getting in 80-100g protein. I'm avoiding starches altogether because they usually work against my weight loss efforts. I am taking my vitamins: calcium citrate, iron, multi, vit D, B12, biotin, etc....AND I am already back to exercising (30 minute brisk walk 4-5 times per week).

Consolation Please...Thanks!!

You are very correct, do not compare yourself to others.  You have lost almost a pound a day and that is amazing.  You probably gained some water weight during surgery and have lost all that.  Sounds like you are doing great.  This isn't a race, you are in it for life.  Just keep on keeping on.  Follow your program, get your protein in and keep the carbs away and you will continue to lose at YOUR PACE.  And don't look at those folks who have 200lbs to lose and how much they lose each month.  We tend to lose the same percentage of our excess weight, it just isn't as many pounds because we don't have as much to lose.  Just think, if you lost a pound a day every day, you would blow away by the end of the year.

My surgeon told me I would be slow and only loose about one lb a week. I am6 weeks out and have lost 12 lbs. I'm just plugging along.

Lyn,

Thank you for sharing your experience....

If you don't mind my asking, why does your surgeon feel that you will lose slowly? Simply due to the fact that you are a lightweight? Or other reasons? Feel free to PM me if you don't feel comfortable posting in open forum.

Thanks so much,

13 lbs in two weeks is FANTASTIC. As a lightweight, you won't lose as quickly as someone who weighs more, and has a greater amount of weight to lose.. Two weeks is too short of a time to make any type of assessment. For example, I put on about 7-8 lbs of water weight from the IV's after surgery and at my 9 day follow-up, I was down ONE pound. By four weeks out, I was down about 12 lbs and by 6 weeks, I was down about 27 lbs.

Try to be patient and don't compare your weight loss to people who weigh more than you and have much more to lose. Give your body some time to repair itself from the major surgery that you just underwent.

Yes, 13 pounds down is fantastic. I did about the same at 2 weeks out... then stalled for over a week. I then lost 4 pounds within the following 2 days! This whole journey is so bizarre, but in a GOOD way.
Be sure to stop and smell those roses on your journey. And stop on in, and ask away whenever you want. That's what this site is for.
