how do you bandage a butt? Maybe TMI

I know as lightweights we don't get the excess skin rubs that our heavier folks get but last week when I was camping, I went on a long trail ride with some friends.  I came back with 2 sores, like open wounds, at my butt crack where the loose skin had rubbed together.  Sounds funny but it feels horrible.  I've been using antibiotic ointment but one side is still raw.  I wonder if powder would be better and dry it instead of keeping it moist.  I plan on riding today for a shorter time and have another ride scheduled for Friday with friends that will be longer.  I refuse to give up horseback riding but this is not good.  I don't have skin that rubs together anywhere else.  Years ago I used to get raw patches under my boobs and used powder to control that.  Now they are so small they don't seem to do that.  Any ideas anyone?

Try Gold Bond powder is what I use. My major weight was in my lower half and I really need a butt lift. LOL My Mom told me to use it in the front and back, especially when we take long drives (9 hrs +) and it works great. I use it for oder too and it's worth the money. Hope this helps or you get relief soon.

I think I used to use a generic one under my boobs.  I'll see if I can find it under the sink somewhere.  Thanks.

Hope you get it resolved soon Price!!  My rear hurts when I sit too long or not on a padded seat because there is not much padding left only skin...

I got a blister on my foot this past weekend from wearing plastic flip flops in the sand (I knew better because it does it every time).  I'm putting Cortaid on it and covering it with a big bandaid because it is right where my sandal straps are.

I bet your riding is going to aggravate it more.  Can you get some type of padded seat and maybe put on extra thick underwear-I don't know - just something to protect it?

I've changed from nylon to cotton panties and have powdered for today.  I thought about trying to put bandaids on but it really is a little in my butt crack and counldn't figure out if that may rub even more.  I have a gel seat but had stopped using it with my new saddle but may have to figure out a way to use it still.

Linda, baby your tailbone!!!     When I lost 75 pounds on WW my tailbone got so bad that I couldn't work or go to church let alone ride in the car.  Nothing helped.  No padding,  donut pilows, soft pillows, hard pillows....nothing!  I even went to a surgeon to see about having something done with it.   Once I gained weight back this pain disappeared.

If you have ever read my profile page you would see that I kept track each month on whether my tailbone was hurting.  I never want to endure that pain again so if I needed to I was willing to gain weight back to prevent it.

You might also think about getting a donut hole pillow or other type of padding for those times, when you sitting for long intervals. It is painful. I've had the same thing happen to me. Keeping the area dry will probably help. If it continues, check with your pcp and they may be able to give you the clear bandages that they use for decubitus ulcers or bedsores. One of the docs that I work with, had a similar thing happen to him, from sitting a lot, so he stands up more, while he is working on the computer.

I thought about something like moleskin.  Would that be similar to what you are talking about?

What I was thinking about, are clear bandages, like they use to cover IV sites. They used to use those for skin breakdown. Treatment may have changed, so I would check with your PCP. Read the directions for the moleskin. It might just be for unbroken skin and to prevent the skin breakdown.

Also, go back to using the gel seat.

Bicyclists use padded shorts, so those might also help, as well as chamois.

I seem to remember something like what you are talking about.  My PCP rides, I think she would understand.
