Had my 4 year follow up today

FINALLY saw my surgeon for my 4 year follow up (which actually isn't until Oct, but it's good that I got it done early since I'm a procrastinator).  I had my labs drawn on Tuesday, and they arrived at the Drs office today.

He went down the list saying "good, good good - oh - too high, stop that".  Yep, he was referring to my D... well... I think we all know what I'm going to do about that advice.  My D was 112... top of range (according to sheet) is 100... nowhere close to toxic.. and I know when my D is higher I feel better - more energy, etc.  He wants me to re-do my labs in 3 months to check that.  We'll see...  Other than that, all was pretty good.   I did get a copy of the labs and will enter into my lab tracking sheet so I can see for myself how I'm trending.  Oh - and he said my protein was fine (I'm been very amiss in drinking my protein shakes), and said I didn't need to drink them since I appeared to be absorbing my protein from my food.  That's probaby because I eat a ton of meat.. but anyway, I told him I did need to get back on them, as my hair is falling out... quite a bit actually.

I hadn't been back to see my surgeon since November of 2009... my 1 year follow up, mainly because I moved back to MI so it was tough getting in.  I really thought I had been there since, but guess not.

In Nov of 2009 I weighed 129, today I weighed 137.  +8 lbs in 3 years, but that's deceiving, as I actually got down to 123 and maintained that for well over a year, THEN bounced up from there.

I think my happy place is 127, and I'd really like to get busy to get back to that.  But he was happy with where and how I was.

Congratulations on the good labs Jody.  My D was high also.  I did not cut out my D3 either.  I did drop it to 3 times a week instead of every day.  I'm like you, I don't want it to get too low and have to worry about getting it up.

Sounds like you had a great check up!!

Yea, he wanted me to stop it for 3 weeks, then only do 5K 3 times a week.  I told him I need to take my vits daily - all of them, or I forget what I did/didn't take.

I do know a few of my other indicators were "within range" but closer to the bottom.  I'll take a closer look at those at home when I update my lab sheet.

Were your liver enzymes ever high.  My ALT & AST always seems to run high.  Next time I'm going to drink a cup of water before I go have my labs and see if they are ok then.  I think it was Marie that suggested that it could be dehydration.

Nope - not this time.  My liver enzymes were high ever since I had surgery, then the place I was having my labs drawn in MI changed the way they did the test, and the numbers went into "range".  These were also within range, so it could be how they're doing the liver enzymes testing.

He did say "you're a little dehydrated"... that's SO true!  I don't get nearly enough fluids in (ok, the kind I'm supposed to get).  Coffee, diet soda and beer don't seem to count - lol.

That's why I do my D every Monday and not every other Monday. It's too easy to forget if it's the right Monday or not.

Sounds like you are doing great!!!!!

I agree with the protein shakes though if your hair is starting to come out.  I think you can also take Zinc and Magnesium to help with that!

Thanks!  I could try the zinc again, since I still have some.  I had cut out some of the "other" stuff I was taking, maybe its time ti re-incorporate it to see what it does for me.
