What is a normal thiamine value

It has taken 3 blood draws and 2 different labs but I finally have a thiamine value of 16.  No normal values are listed.  What is normal?  This might be the cause of my problems.

Exactly why I asked about your B values before. Low B1 can give you issues like you were describing. B1 is thiamine. There's even something called bariatric Beriberi.

I knew about that but the lab test was repeatedly cancelled because the sample wasn't good!  Or maybe the samples were good and it was just really really low.  What is normal?

I think 26 is the low end. Let me go look at my Quest lab sheet. Stand by.

This is what I found, but you may want to go online and do some research on it.  From what I've read there are several ways to test for Thiamine.

Thiamine condition

TPPE

Normal

0-14 %

Marginally deficient

15-24 %

Severely deficient (with clinical signs)

25+ %

9 -41 for plasma but I think there's a whole blood test with a different measure. Just because you're above the reference range doesn't mean you might not be symptomatic.

Well worth looking into getting a good lab test for vitamin B1 done correctly.

My B1 test has been repeatedly unusable because of the sample.  the lab tech even calls when she is doing it to be sure she gets it right, then it comes back unusable.  There must be something really wrong/hard about that particular test.

It cannot be exposed to the light.  It degrades the thiamine or something.  I think B12 is the same way.
