Had surgery August 1st and have lost 8 lbs.  Saw doc  today and he said since I am a "lightweight" it will be a real slow process to lose.  Is this the case with others?

Yep, I'm just over 4 weeks out and have lost 16lb (I'm a revision which is slower too).  You have to think of it this way, if a 400lb person loses 5% of their weight in a month that's 20lb.  Someone who weighs 200lb will only lost 10lb to attain that same 5%.

Apparently lightweights get to goal quicker, so you just have to think of that.  Plus compare it to other diets you've done.  You'd probably be very happy with 8lb in 3 weeks.

Hang in there.

I lost all my weight by 11 months out and some LWs are faster than that. We aren't slower, we just have less to lose. Welcome aboard! :)

Ya know, this is a lifetime journey.  If you get there in 10 months or 12, you still have the rest of your life to stay on the path.  don't compare your trip to others.  It will frustrate and depress you but you are you and as long as you keep on keeping on, it will happen for you.  I was slow if you compare me to someone with 200lbs to lose but I am at goal and have been for a year.  I'm happy with that.

Glad you found us.  Stick around and visit with the rest of the lightweights and you will feel better about your journery than reading about those 40 lb losses in 20 days.

Welcome.  I'm relatively new here too.  I have not had my surgery yet - still waiting on insurance approval (finger crossed) - this is a great and very informative group.

Good luck on your journey!

Hi and welcome!

It's hard to say because we all lose at different rates.  Here I thought I was a "slow" loser and at 3 months out I have lost 50% of my excess weight.  It took me a year to do that with the LapBand, and I am a revision from LapBand to RNY as well.

Just follow your guidelines, and the weight will come off.  Some weeks are better than others and you will hit some weeks where your body re-calibrates and you don't lose anything, that is to be expected.  Being a lightweight, you will definitely get to goal faster, which is great!!!!

I have pics and a blog on my profile outlining my experience to date.  You are welcome to take a look at it if you want.

Hang around here and you can't go wrong.  This is a great board, and there are a lot of people who are very willing to help you and answer your questions.
