I try and "go fish" on many topics by reading old posts so I don't post the same questions y'all have answered millions of times in the past. But here are two I just can't figure out...

What is up with the "swinging lizards" of encouragement comments? I get it is positive thoughts, but there must be a story there I'm missing :)

And what does the NSV acronym stand for?? I get what it means but I can't figure out the words...I feel like I'm playing a game of charades with myself on this one!

Enquiring minds want to know... :)

Welcome to our LW board!!!!!

LOL.....You will probably learn a whole lot of crazy things about us from reading old posts but we don't mind questions being repeated! You probably aren't the only one wondering about our strange conversations.

Gina will have to tell you the story about where the swinging lizards came from but you can swing anything that is handy....dogs, cats, bunnies...whatever.

Ah, yes....swinging lizards. A long, long time ago when the DS board was very active and DSrs were often waging war amongst themselves, they came to a truce between born again Christians and non-religious folks. The truce involved saying they would swing chickens rather than praying for, or requesting pile-on prayers, for this that and the other thing. Well, when I would wish people good luck over here on the LW board I'd say I was swinging chickens. One of the funniest LWs I've ever met thought it was funny but said she was all out of chicken but swing the lizards crawling up her patio wall. lol It stuck and LWs started swinging lizards for good luck and sending well wishes for folks having surgery. Swinging lizards has evolved into swinging critters of all kinds for good luck wishes and prayers without getting preachy. Oh! One of the funniest adaptations of swinging lizards was a LW who is an OBGYN-- she said she would swing beavers. lol

Lol! Swinging beavers , that is hilarious made me laugh out loud! I'm glad to hear the explanation. I was thinking it was sending loves and hugs and cuddly things along with prayers . close enough!

Hilarious! I remember when I was a newbie, someone told me that they would swing little Willie.......I literally LOL

Come to find out it was her dog. I like the swinging beavers....I just might have to steal it because I am a L/D RN.

I have always understood NSV to be Non Scale Victory eg when a wedding ring fits again.

Normally critters are swung for luck although cats or lizards and so on will do. I believe that it comes to from an old Jewish custom of swinging a chicken for luck. I read the story a while back and don't remember more details.
