OT: Newest puppy
Actually I consider dogs higher maint than cats...as to eating their weight in food...leave one large bowl out a day of dry food...once empty, don't fill it again til morning. We also have all our cats share one can of wet food (have to get the glucosamine in the older cats somehow). We also have two cat litter pans, one on each floor. But I don't have to walk them or take them outside to potty...they sleep about 25 hours out of 24....
Dh gets up early every morning to take the dogs outside regardless of the weather...we bathe the dogs once a week, And they eat about as much (just the three did) as the seven cats and their food is WAY more expensive than the dry cat food. Our cats like the Purina Natural...we HAVE to have one that has no red dye in it...we have one allergic to the red dye. She throws up her food when she eats anything with the red dye and MOST cat foods have that as an ingredient. But the Purina Natural is fairly cheap for a large bag at WalMart. And we use less than 2 bags a month. Works out to about $25 a month for the dry cat food and about $80 for a month of dry dog food.

We've never had a pet in the house (other than our bird****il DD moved in and I can't wait until her Yorkie Harley moves to his new home. I think a dog would be nice if he stayed off of the kitchen table and peed and pooped outside (which he doesnt').

God is walking with me every step of the way. Because of HIM this is possible!!

I have enough heartburn with ours accidently peeing/pooping in the house and as puppies (the other three are not quite a year old and 8 months old), it happens. But 95% of the time, it happens outside...dh just hasn't gotten to the point where he can read telepathy! But the puppies do NOT get on the furniture (except for a sofa that has a slipcover and is very old anyway)
Now, the cats train themselves as long as the litter box is cleaned daily. However, they walk the counters, tables...but then again I have had cats since I was 10 and clorox wipes work very well. I guess cats walking everywhere just doesn't faze me as much as if they were puppies...and partly because our cats do NOT go outside, ever, AT ALL!
