Good morning everyone! I have a few questions on eating. I had VSG 8/6/12 , I am eating Greek yogurt, pudding , soups etc... Well I have 2 oz yogurt for breakfast , wait 30 min and start my protein drinks. I do the same with lunch and supper. Question is " if I can't finish  the meal do I save it for later in the day when I get a twinge of hunger, or is that it for that meal save it for another day and eat my next meal when it's time? Another question on pills . I do take a couple pills in the morning . I cut them in quarters and mix them with my yogurt. Is it ok to take them all at once ? Or should I take the quarters so many minutes apart? Oh and one more thing, since surgery , I cannot sleep at night! I'm up till 12-2 am sleep till 6:00 and back up for the day. I used to have no trouble sleeping , now I've tried Benedryl , hypnosis tapes ect... Any ideas there? Thanks for your responses and time , have an awesome day!

When I was on 2 oz meals, we were doing 6-8 a day, like every 2 hrs.  I don't remember not being able to finish one but I think I would have just tossed the last 1/2oz and started over.  Or serve yourself 1.5 oz and get the other .5 if you want it.
If by pills, you mean your vits/mins, you need to space out the calcium because about 500mg is all you can absorb at one time.  So maybe 3x a day for that.  You need 2 complete multis and they should be spaced out too.  Iron, if you are taking that, doesn't go well with calcuim so it needs to be at a different time and it is absorbed better with C.
If your pills are meds, I just took mine when ordered and didn't space out anything. But most were discontinued with surgery.  My PCP weaned me off the BP med for about 9 months but that was all I was on.
Sleep, once I got over being uncomfortable from surgery, I had no problem sleeping,  In fact, I was in bed at 8 and up at 7 for what seemed like months.  Can't help at all there.

The only pills I take are Prilosec, Claritin , b12 dissolve able , and iron before bed. My surgeon said he was not worried about me needing vitamins only b12, I am taking the iron just because I think I should. I do have one aday vitamin gummies but haven't had them yet.

most surgeons put all WLS folks, no matter what the surgery, on vits because of the limited intake.  It makes it hard to get everything we need, even if you don't have a malabsortive surgery.  Prilosec and claritin can certainly be taken at one time.  B12 anytime.  Did you have labs done before surgery?  That would help you know if you were getting low in anything.

Yes all my labs came back " perfect" they said . Only to worry if I started feeling tired, lethargic ect... My job provides labs for their "Wellness" program for insurance. He said that would be good enough? I think I will take vitamins any way when I am able to eat more, they always tend to make me sicky. plus I kinda Believe I get cravings for food when my body is lacking something: vitamin D, protien etc..

THEIR idea of perfect is NOT good...it just means you are in acceptable ranges. You need a copy of your lab work and post it here so Gina or someone else can help out.

Bariatric surgeons get ONE class in nutrition in med school...and the NUTS give everyone the RNY advice.

Here is a list of labs and target levels:

And here is a list of the vitamins you should be starting with at first until you can adjust for your particular lab work:

I think you will find most surgeons know next to nothing about vitamins and nutrition. Dr Criangle is about the only one I know of that treats VSGr's vitamin requirements seriously. You might want to reach out to MacMadame (Marie) about vitamins and labs for VSGrs. Her program requires labs to be just a thorough and frequent as others with WLS.

I would like to add my two cents as well concerning vitamins etc.  You're really early out, and I didn't have any problems that early out.  But if you look at my posts, I've been having difficulty with protein levels for 6 months and now vitamins and iron.  I even had problems with Prilosec, which I used before surgery, but stopped working after surgery.   That's been addressed by switching meds, but it took about 6 months to find one that worked.  Bottom line, you don't want to get where I am now.

You should track all your labs - even though you are "only" a VSG, you're not eating that many calories, and it's hard to get in all the vitamins, mineral, and protein etc without supplementation.

You don't want to sacrifice your Vitamins and Supplements no matter what the Surgeon says!!!!!
Over a period of time your levels will start to drop and it is really hard to bring them back up.

I copied Vitalady's Bloodwork list (2 lists..one for 6 months and 1 for a year), took it to my PCP and told him this is what I needed, he copied them, signed them, and gives it to me  on his letterhead when I call him and tell him it's time. Early out I had low B12 and A so Gina told me what to get.  Mine have been good so I only use the 1 year labs now but during the honeymoon stage I got them taken more often.

I take my Prilosec, Multi Vitamin,  B-12, A, D3,and a Colace all at night before I go to bed.  I spread my Calcicum Citrate out during the day.

I ate every few hours early out and they only I time I couldn't usually finish my meal was when I had meat (that's still a problem with me).  I still only eat about 3 oz. at one meal.
