I was one of the rare ones that felt hunger relatively early out...like within 6 weeks or so. The good thing is I also felt fullness which helped me learn when to stop REAL fast. One of the things I read is real hunger means you are satisfied with anything you eat while head hunger is more about a craving. I experience REAL hunger several times a day. There are many who are blessed with never feeling hungry again but some of us experience hunger again pretty early out. An acid inhibitor can help as acid may mimic hunger. I learned this when experiencing hunger real fast about 9 months post surgery...the addition of this medication helped some. Good luck!

I didn't experience hunger for a long time and then it was an empty feeling, not a craving.  I usually start with fluid when I think I am hungry and it isn't time to eat because thirst can seem like hunger also.

Real hunger is different from head hunger...

To tell the difference, put off doing anythiing about it for 15 mins..go do something else that totally immerses you in it...if you are still hungry after that, eat some protein. Or drink a protein shake.

With head hunger I always thought I was hungry, with real hunger, my stomach rumbles but I realize with a pouch, that may not work.

Do you take a PPI?  I often confused hunger with "irritation" from my pouch.  Once I figured out it was because I stopped taking my PPI and started again, it went away.

I didn't have hunger for a long time.  I twas probably over a year before I did.  But - head hunger DOES exist.

You need to be able to differentiate between real hunger, head hunger and irritation - they feel the same, but a little different.

Good luck!

I am only starting week 4 (7/24/12) and I feel hunger. When I eat it is only 3-4oz max and I can tell I'm done but then in 2 hours I am hungry again. I am getting in 50-60 grams regularly but today I tried to focus on 3 meals and 2 snacks. I got in over 70 grams of protein but ate an extra snack... Ate over 700 calories today, the most since surgery. Doctor says focus on the three meals and two snacks but 6 small snacks seems like it would work better for me. Does this sound right?
