Hey everybody,

I had my first session with the Surgeon on Tuesday,  and I have beend going 90 miles an hour eversince.  Had my Psych evaluation today,  2 hour appointment with the nutritionist and will have my Upper GI and lab work in the AM and then Pulmanary consult in the afternoon.  I think I may make the end of August for a surgery date. If not I will have to wait until november because of work priorities..
It is nice not to have to deal with Insurance requirements on top of this.  one advantage of self payment....
After talking to all these professionals,   I am still unsure of which surgery,  one day I think the sleeve is the best bet,  then after today I think maybe RNY better for me. I guess i am going to have to continue to research and read.....

Did anyone else have that panic feeling that you might fail after you met with the nutritionist?  I know I can do it, and I am so ready,  but for the first time today I had this fear of failure.   It seems to have passed...just interested if anyone else experienced this so early in the process?

I hope you get the date you want.  I finished all of my preliminary work about 3 weeks ago and I'm still waiting on approval :(

As a 2 step DSer I'm afraid of failing in my weightloss journey.  2 stage DSs lose more slowly than those that get it done in step.

I'm sure at some point I thought, will it really work for me.  But it didn't last long.  You can do it.  We are all here to tell you and show you it can be done.  Hope you don't have to wait until Nov, unless you really want to.

Yes- I remember meeting with the NUT and thinking "huh - what is she talking about?".

I had to make up sample menus and take to her prior to my surgery.  if I didn't do it they were going to cancel me.  It was difficult because they talked about "liquids, purees, soft foods" - yikes!

but - it does all come together and gets easier.

I think we all feel we are going to fail.  You'll even have times during your weight loss phase when you think that because your weight loss slows down, but believe me - it will happen!  As long as you keep doing the right things and let your tool do it's job - you'll be very successful!

Swinging critters that August surgery date happens for you!

Hope you get your August surgery date!!  Be sure to look at all the surgeries.  It can be overwhelming, but you need to look at your eating habits and which surgery will help you the most.  We are all so different and have different needs.

Can't wait to watch your journey.  Keep us updated.

What I remember most is how quickly, like you said, everything moved once insurance gave approval.  I had been on such an emotional roller coaster for 6 months worrying I would not get approval.  Then once I did all the appointments came so quickly.  I knew I wanted RNY because I needed all the help I could get.  If I could have, I would have chosen DS, but that was not an option for me.  I still worry about failing.  Maintenance is as tough as I anticipated it would be because life is back to normal as far as my ability to eat.  Consequently I am having to rely on newly formed habits to keep me where I am.  That is what my surgeon kept saying....the surgery gets us where we need to be, but it is up to us to stay there.  Congratulations on your upcoming surgery.
