Good Morning. And, the answer is...

...your mileage may vary (YMMV). Don't be too afraid to experiment a little bit....I'm not advocating going on a sticky bun diet but test the conventional wisdom if you don't think your body is reacting positively, or as expected, to the advice you're given. You may be sensitive to gluten or artificial sweeteners or milk or even whey protein isolate. Yogurt may not work to calm your newly rerouted guts, or probiotics may not work for you for that matter. You may have to search for what works for you. Some of us have been around awhile a know that different strokes work for different folks but we get caught up in what works for most people or what works for us. Smack us! Only you can determine what works best for you and the goals you have set for yourself.

Today I'll be trying to walk more and do leaning push-ups. I'll also be aware of sodium...thinking of having pistachios every other day. The tweaking and adjustments never stop. Are you going to try something a little different today?

i have a training from 8:30 to 4:30 today.  Yuck.  So I am having my protein coffee now, will have breakfast before I leave and take a protein drink for this morning and a protein bar for this afternoon with me.  Lot's of ok places to get lunch near the place where the meeting is (in a mall where the local hospital has a wellness unit).  I can walk in the mall during breaks.  It will certainly be different from my normal day.

Good morning.  Last day of freedom.  It's back to work tomorrow.  As much as I'm not ready to go back I know it will help with the grazing.  Structure is a good thing!!  Lol!!

Wish me luck.  I'm hoping to increase my MPG!!!!

I agree with all of that.  I have developed sensitivities to stuff I could always eat even post surgery...now milk and I aren't friends and I rarely eat meat unless it's basically raw.  I am actually proud that I can eat 1/2 a falafel (Israeli street food) and feel pretty good.  When I discovered that we need the enzymes from our regular stomach to digest some of the things I have issues with....and of course I don't have those....I kind of got why I have issues with meat and milk.  Now veggies love me and I love veggies...and fruit too.  But they come with their own digestive enzymes which is why they make the tummy happy.

Unfortunately I can also eat chocolate and nutella and bread and non-dairy ice cream in small amounts....and that's what has done me in.  So today I am working a whole grain, fruit and veggie day.  I had a sandwich with some rare roast beef for lunch and now two cucumbers (fruit and veg are scary cheap here).  I am considering fish for dinner but that will depend on if I hoof it to go find it :)  If not then I plan to make a buckwheat ratatouille kind of thing maybe with eggs.  Not sure.

And two games of tennis with the wii.

I must have a sleeve and GUTS of iron...so far the only thing that has bothered me has been drinking milk...I use to do that every day, now I just use half & half in cooking and my coffee...the milk pretty much is only dh's!

I also haven't tried real eggs...been sensitive to the egg yolk for decades...that is one I am not yet willing to try out. So we use egg white (egg beaters) here.

I am using a wee bit more real sugar over the sugar free stuff....and it doesn't seem to be making my blood sugars go nuts. Don't get me wrong, I can still go higher than I like after a meal (160-180) but even normies with NO diabetes or pre-diabetes can reach 180 after a meal.

But even with YMMV...you have to start somewhere so the general advice is a good place...then best bet when first out of surgery and finally back on food is to try one new item a day...kind of like how you introduce new foods to a baby...that way if you have a reaction, you know the culprit.

Nothing different for me today.  It is so easy for me to get off track that I need to stay with what I know.  Being in the house with virtually no food is actually a good thing. Yesterday I wanted to snack/graze SO bad - but.. didn't have anything to snack on!  There's a method to my madness.  I passed the Wheat Thins at Walmart the other day and wouldn't let myself buy them... I do have 2 containers of popcorn (yes, the kind you pop on the stove) but no pan and oil to cook it with..

I have found Bagel Thins though.  I really do like them!  Yes, I know.. Carbs... but wheat, so they don't affect my sugar.  110 calories (or so) each.  I know I should find something else... but they have the bulk I like to keep me satisfied for several hours.

Great, great advice.  When I was newly post op, I could not eat much protein.  I read a post where one person ate SHELLED sunflower seeds in order to supplement protein intake.  I tried it, and it worked well.  For a while I really relied on them to add protein.  Eventually I had to cut them out completely due to the calories/fat in them.  One serving is 1/4 cup, and as my capacity increased my serving size increased.

Anyway....I posted I ate them and suggested one person try them.  I don't know what she did...she bought the seeds with shells on thinking she would eat more slowly as she deshelled them...but she ate some and became very, very ill.  That should not have happened, and one poster to her story about eating them said as much.

I was horrified and apologized to her, but I still think she must have eaten some shell - that would have made any new post op ill.  But this underscores your advice how we each individually need to test what best works for us.

Nothing different for me today.  I hope the rain comes and goes this morning/afternoon so I can run/walk after work.

Work today - need to finish payroll things and cut some checks.  Also need to start on an annual report that is due at the end of August....do not need to procrastinate on this!!

I need to go visit my friends at the nursing home at lunch today.  I went Friday and the little man that I visit is not doing good.  He is not eating anymore and is just sleeping.  His daughter told me that his time is almost up.  I have really enjoyed visiting with him and getting to know him and will miss him.  He and his wife have gotten to share a room at the nursing home for the last 2-3 months.

Hope everyone has a great day today.

I actually joined weigh****chers about 3 weeks ago.  I had got into some bad habits.  With running I just really didn't know how to eat.  I actually gained weight.  Now I'm eating more HEALTHY carbs--radishes--cucumbers--brocoli--summer squash--aspargus--tomatoes  and am losing some of that +10 which was creeping up to +15.  Am about 8# over goal now and have more energy for my running.  I rely on 40g in protein coffee to jump start my day.  I think I can stick with this type of meal plan.  Somedays when I can't get all my points in, I will eat a granola bar or 1/2 of one at the end of the day.  I always get in 60 - 80g protein.  I feel really good.
