Jaw Surgery WORKED
I finally had a follow up sleep study on the 15th of this month. Was scheduled as a split night but they never woke me up to put the cpap on me...so I had my fingers, toes, nose crossed that my hunch about not needing it any longer was correct...
I had the follow up a bit ago, I NO LONGER NEED the cpap. The jaw surgery was SOOO worth it.

I had my uvula removed and it did help significantly, but not quite 100%. I'm hoping that losing weight will finish the job for me.

How this all happened...I was originally diagnosed with sleep apnea back in 2002 but went the surgery route of have the UPPP back then. Even MO, it still worked. I was retested in 2008 and was still okay. But as part of my getting WLS, I admitted that I still had sleep apnea...but it hasn't been bad since my surgery in 2002.
Anyway, after I got to their goal back last summer, they had me do a repeat sleep study to see if I was cured...apparently I had gotten bad enough that my AIH was a 6.something (they don't bother treating if 5 or below) but I was also having hypoxia events...severe ones. So I got put on a cpap...which I tried to make work. In the meantime, I switched sleep doctors and asked if there was anything still to be done. He referred me to an oral & maxifacial surgeon who, after xrays told me he could help.
The LeFort/SSRO basically "breaks" the jaws and moves them forward. Then I spent a month either drinking thru a syringe/ a sippy cup or swallowing very soft foods. I still have trouble chewing hard stuff...celery is a KILLER!!

I've had issues with TMJ at times and hard chewing has always been an issue but normally things like celery are fairly easy...not right NOW! LOL
