OT. Getting a tattoo. Need opinions
After nearly 2 months of intense counseling, I am ready to start working on reconciling with my husband. Up to now, we have both been doing individual counseling. I decided to get a Phoenix on my ankle. My daughter is drawing it for me. I went to several tattoo places and evaluated different artist's work. While I was there I saw a 3 D spider tattoo and fell in love with it. So I have an appointment at 3 today to get it done. I can't decide if I want it behind my ear or on my shoulder. It is very realistic looking. It will be about the size of a half dollar. What do you think? Behind the ear or on the shoulder? Spider tattoos symbolize navigating your way through life's intricacies and my new house I'm renting is very old and full of spiders. I have nicknamed this period of my life "the Year of the Spider".
My question would be "where would it hurt LESS to put it"? LOL... I'm chicken - I've thought about a tattoo but will probably never do it...

My question would be about what your career aspirations are. If you are a professional then whatever you do don't get a tattoo anywhere on your body that is visible, especially on your face. I know tattoos are more acceptable these days but not really. If you work with a conservative clientele then it will definitively reflect back to you. If you work in the art fields or for yourself then it really doesn't matter but if you work in retail or for others with the public then get it somewhere where it can be easily hidden.

Very good point Tazz. I am in the medical field and am a supervisor. I live in an area with a very conservative feel. They can both be hidden fairly well as long as I keep my hair longer. My DD had a tattoo done behind her ear when she was 16 and kept it hidden from me until she was almost 18. I was more mad that she had it done illegally in someone's garage than the fact she had one. Admittedly, it was done well and looks awesome but....I didnt tell her that. I made her get tested for Hepatitis and HIV as her punishment. Thank goodness all was well.
LOL, I agree with Jody...the idea of a tattoo just makes me gringe. Nicely done ones look fine but not for me...too chicken!
I also agree about the "being able to cover it". We still live in an age/country where body art is still not considered professional.
Also consider if you plan plastics or not, the location/art work may be affected depending on it's location.

Don't get me wrong, I love tattoos. I have several, more then a dozen. I've lost count, including one I got when I hit goal with my first WLS, but I swore I would never get any on my face or hands. That and I would never get a man's name. Again. The neck is a little to close to the face for my liking. Just too hard to cover. I like wearing my hair back when it's longer. All of my tattoos can be easily covered and in fact many people don't even know I have tattoos. I would go for the shoulder.

I vote shoulder. I found one I absolutely love on Pinterest. It's the word "Love" in cursive and it joined itself at the e and l. Look for it. Don't know if I'll ever be brave enough. Maybe at goal????? Make sure it's not one of those faded looking ones -- I'm sure you are shopping in good neighborhoods!!! LOL
