I need to vent!!
RNY on 06/01/12
I am only 5 weeks post op but I have learned so much about myself and have established well into an exercise routine, I am getting in my protien requirement and then some..I work at a place where 8 of us have had gastric bypass..we all had to go through the same requirments and had the same surgeon...I keep seeing some of them making poor choices, ie. drinking everynight, eating way more food then should, eating things they know they shouldnt be and then the plaster it all over facebook for all of our coworkers to see. Then the image of WLS patients is them not people like myself who are diligently following every piece of the plan and exercising etc.. It is very frustrating that these people at my work become the face of WLS. It is just frustrating to see this day in and day out and they still lose the weight even though they are doing nothing correctly.
All done thanks for letting me vent.

How far out are they? Still in their "honeymoon period". They can continue to lose while eating the wrong stuff during the honeymoon phase. Problem is, when that phase passes, reality will smack them hard upside the head and regain will start if they continue to eat like they are.
Unfortunately that's a hard lesson learned. Many of us say "it won't happen to us", but it can and does.
Just keep doing things the right way and take care of YOU! Stick around here for your support and learn during your journey the things to do to be succussful in maintenance.
Vent away!

Jody is right...after about 2 years, it takes diligence to keep the weight off...that's one reason for Roz' M&M daily thread, the Sunday weigh in thread, etc...We don't want to be the ones to regain when we have each other to support each other.

sometimes it takes time and trial n error to permanently change food addiction .
it best not to take others food inventory though often i dont agree with their choices ,
its easy to judge and even easier to forget that real lifestyle changes are a slow and sometimes painful process for most.

This is the place to vent....no judging because we all understand.
While you are in the honeymoon period it is very easy to think it will last for ever and to fall into bad habits. We get a false hope that we can still lose weight without making good choices and long term lifestyle changes.
Your friend who is just 3 months out has probably been watching your friends who are further out who are loosing without much effort. They will eventually be past the honeymoon period and their weight will start to gradually go up. For some it will start at about 2 years but for others it might take longer but it will happen!
Try not to be too upset about your friends. There isn't anything you can say to them to convince them that they will regret their decision in the future. Just keep making the best choices you can for yourself and try not to fall in to any of their bad habits.
As they get to maintenance I would love to hear updates. Any information that we can collect on here helps the rest of us.
