Weekly Maintenance Post
Hi Linda!
Victories: I've started my protein shakes again. Amazing how it DOES help curb the appetite. I've also cut way down on nonsense carbs. I'm exercising again. NO chocolate! (except my Atkins bars, which I don't eat often). Been making food at home (versus going out) and bringing my lunch to work and NOT eating out. I've also cut my adult beverages WAY down (as I know that's a major contributor to my weight gain).
Struggles: After I got back from my motorcycle trip, I was UP 5 lbs!! I'm back down the 5 lbs but I need to drop another 7-8. I'm working on it. I'm going out tonight, and will be eating out so I need to make GOOD choices (which I usually do - its that darn beer!)

Jody,
Glad you are back from your trip. I don't think I could go without my protein shakes. They really help keep my hands/mouth occupied between meals and help me not to snack as much. I ate out a lot at my parents and am glad I'm back home. I never thought I would rather eat from home than to eat out...
I bet the 5 pounds was just from riding and not being able to walk around as much and was probably jus****er weight.
You are doing so good - keep it up!!

Maria,
I have missed you soooo much!!! I'm glad you are back with us. There is a whole group of us now on maintenance and trying to help each other out.
Yep - the honeymoon is over!! It is up to us now. Are you still walking you dog??
Carbs go down so easily and such a comfort food. You can do this!! We are all cheering for you. Start back posting on Roz's Menus and Miles it really helps with the accountability.

Hi Linda! This is the last day at the beach for us and my first vacation without scales! I'm nervous to get on them when we get home. Lots of seafood this week, walking in the sand, swimming so hopefully it's not too bad. I know what to do so I will be back in the saddle with normal life next week!

Linda, good idea...like the idea of this thread.
While I am still in my comfort zone, I'm at the high end and not liking it. (123-127).
I started practing "portion control" LONG ago but my portions were still super sized compared to post-op. After being diabetic for 15 years and being on insulin for 9 of those years, I THOUGHT I was eating decent portions. And I would try to always go for the green veggies/meats for my seconds when I had them. I still like having seconds on veggies...esp green veggies.
What helps me is protein shakes too...but we ran out last week and it will be this week before we can get more. If I get nibbly hungry, I am very likely to just grab a spoon and dig into the peanut butter...seems to cure the immediate need for the munchies...and if I need crunch, add a celery stick under it instead of the spoon.
I did very well this past weekend while visiting my daddy...normally we go visit and because my stepmom USED to be in nursing, she has been brainwashed that it's fat/meat that is the enemy not grains (carbs). She's also cooking vegetarian, which is NOT our current lifestyle. Anyway, the retirement home he is in now has meals most of the time...Sunday supper being the exception. And the choices aren't bad...I was able to order a steak on Sat night and pot roast on Sunday...I used my potato on Sat night as a way to get my sour cream and butter...ate about an oz of potato.
But I suspect my rise this week was my not having protein shakes as my snack.

Liz,
It does get scary when we get to the top part of our range, but I'm sure when you get your protein powder you will get it right back down. It really helps me keep from snacking. It is great to know our tools are still there for us, we just have to use them!!
I love being in my routine everyday and it helps so much.

Routine helps a great deal...we get all out of sorts when we "break" our routine.
