Good Morning, LWs. What's cooking besides us?

Last night I made meatloaf using that awesome grass fed ground beef, milk fed ground pork and veal. Now I have no idea if this is the reason my DH and son are losing weight, but I have a feeling the grass fed, nearly organic meat I've been feeding them has something to do with it. Think about it, they put growth hormones in the animals we consume, right? Could that be part of the reason we're seeing this jump in obesity in America and western cultures? We haven't gone totally Paleo Diet, yet, but I'm trying to adopt more of the ideas presented there. One thing I do different is the dairy, I gotta have my dairy.

You guys doing anything interesting with your or your family's diet?

It's summer so we are eating from the garden as much as possible.  It's hard right now because the spinach and lettuce are over and the cukes and blueberries are the only things in.  Well, I did get a banana pepper yesterday for the salad.  And I'm still getting broccali for a salad here and there.  Anyway, I'll be happy when we have a little more variety.  During the summer, DH doesn't bowl on a league so isn't gone 2 evenings a week.  That was when I had fish but I've been cooking fish for both of us and he has been fine with it.  He just covers his in tarter sauce which makes it not quite so healthy,

I keep meaning to get to the farmer's market on Sat morning here but haven't made it yet this summer.  I know they have buffalo and trout.  Not sure what other meats.

Shew! Our household is complicated with diets. DH needs to tighten up his will power and leave the 1/4 of a gallon of ice cream (this man is skinny) and potato chips every night. His triglycerides are really up. My 14,will be 15 in September DD is 4'8" and is over weight. She had always been a couch potato before she came here and is having a tough time with her height/not eating anything she sees. So, with her pediatricians help, are trying to get her to wake up and start getting with the program. We are having her watch her starches and calories. Our 9 yr old DD is as tall as our 14 yr old and needs extra calories to stay at a good weight. So while we say not a good choice for one we have to push for the other. Then here I come with my way of eating. LOL

I think I may make chicken tonight. Chicken tenderloins dipped in egg and rolled in cheese. Or maybe pork chops.

From this article, yes - by going organic may be why they're losing weight....  Perhaps you can change to organic dairy?  Milk?

Interesting article that addresses growth hormones, pesticides, as well as many other things that are contributing to obesity, as well as other health issues.

I do eat a lot of meat and chicken.  I think its time for me to re-evaluate some of my eating choices.  There's even a section about what veggies have the highest concentration of pesticides.

I ate the hamburg last night I got from you - made it into taco meat.  Was yummy.  Haven't eaten the steaks yet.

Where did you get that meat from?  I'm wondering if the local supermarkets are carrying organic meats?  I know some do chicken.

My daughter gives my granddaughter only organic milk.  She's pretty conscious about this, but I'm sure she can learn a lot from this article too.

It's kind of a pinch of this and that but here goes:

1 1/2 pounds of ground meat (1/2 beef, 1/2 veal, 1/2 pork)
2 eggs
1/2 cup low carb ketchup
1/3 cup water
1 envelope of Lipton onion soup mix or similar spices
1/2 cup chopped onions
1/2 cup plain oatmeal

350 degrees for 55 minutes

Where do you find grass-fed beef and/or nearly organic meats?  That is something I would be interested in!

Our local farmers market has 2 vendors of nearly organic meats. One only does beef but the other has beef, veal, pork, chicken and dairy.

I will have to check my local Farmer's Market. . . .I know the Amish have several stands there. Actually, they have about a third of the building.  They have a huge butcher stand, I will have to see if their meats are grass-fed or close to organic. . . that may explain why their meat is so pricey!

Thank you!

DH's diet that I told him he needed to go on only lasts until the nearest cookie or slice of bread appears.  I've been trying my best to cook his food healthier but he doesn't make good choices when he is out.  He just isn't happy with 1 double cheeseburger from McDonalds he has to have 2 and go large on top of that!

We haven't been eating dinner out near as much but he eats lunch out every day.
