I am just over 2 weeks post op(19days) I went back to work on Monday (half days and I sit at a desk)and started exercising again as well. (just walking on the treadmill. and yes this was ok'd by my surgeon) The llast 2 nights after laying on my side either one left or right for about half an hour or so I get this sharp stabbing pain near my large incision it hurts to move and the only way to get it to quit is to lay flat on back. Is this normal? Should I call my surgeon? Is it from something I am doing? Please help me it is really annoying. Please note the pain is only when I lay on my side and usually the rest of the day there is very minimal pain.

i imagine it is just part of the healing inside, maybe some scar tissue forming or something. When do you do a followup?  If it keeps bothering you, and you don't have an appt soon, call.  It probably isn't anything since it isn't all the time but it will set your mind at ease to know.

I sleep on my sides..that is the only position.  When I had WLS, I could not sleep on my side for some time.  I realized immediately once I tried I would have some pain.  I think my fat belly pulled downward causing pain.  I did not try for probably about at least one week.  When I did, there was discomfort.  I do not know how long I had to wait until I could comfortably sleep on my side, but I remember it took a little time.

Dasey reminded me.  I slept with a ton of pillows for the first several months propping me up everywhere.  I could sleep on by right side with a pillow under my tummy sooner than I could my left.  Totally forgot about the pillows.

It has been a while, I remember a similar pain when I was early out. My doctor said that there are some internal stitches inside the large incision. He did all the "work" through it. You should expect more soreness there.

There is a fine line between sore and pain. Sore I can live with. Pain means call your doctor. Sometimes just getting an answer to your concern helps.

2 weeks is very early to go back to work - it is a good thing you went back half day but it is still getting up, getting dressed which is alot of bending, stretching and exertion,  Putting on sox and shoies took me a long time.  I was not allowed to go to the gym or any other exerciize for 5 weeks when I had my 5 week follow up and then he would decide .  During the first 5 weeks, he wanted us to concentrate on our diets, being very strict with what we eat, religiously and also making sure we are drinking enough.  It is essential.  At one point, I came close to passing out  and wsas close to dehydration.  I had to be religious with my protein, every 2 - 3 hours and as much as I am allowed to drinkg for a total of 6 meals per day, every 3 hours (can be 2 if you ate something light) then in between meals, you can drink water, protein drinks (20gram protein shake minimums - Adkins is a  good Ready to Drink Whey protein drink. 20grams.

You can also make your own which have anywhere from 25 to 50 grams per shake.   I make it in lots ot flavors.  It is delicious - you can make them in hot cocoa as well and that is also delicious.  You can make the hot cocoa as usual in a mig.

Randi's Hot Cocoa - 35 grams of cocoa

Then take 1 1/2 scoops of chocolate whey protein in a bowl. Then get a  1/3  cup of llook  warm water and mix and mix until smooth. add  a little milk to taste for taste.   Then when smooth, you can you are done.

Chocolate Monkey  - 45 grams of protein

for your shake - 8 ounces of milk - skim, low fat (can be lactaid or soy if you need it) and put into the blender,, 2 tablespoons of SF chocolate syrup, 5 to 6 ice cubes,  2 tablesoons of SF chocolate pudding powder, 2 scoops of chocolate whey protein powder and 1 sliced banana

you can alter all your flavors for numerous variations.
