Maintenance Post

Hi!

Linda - what a great topic. Maintenance is so much a learning process for me, building on what I used to lose weight.

Victory: Tracking everyday. I realized that I have not been eating great recently, so am making sure I am getting all my protein (which I had been), but also getting in fruit and veggies.

Struggle: I am in grad school, and this summer is just driving me crazy. It has been crazy stressful, and I find myself reaching for my old "comfort" foods. I am working on this tho' so I don't backslide and start gaining weight. So glad for this place to come for help and encouragement.

Great job on tracking your food.  Even though I list all of mine on menus and miles sometimes if I eat something late at night I won't go back and put it there.  I tracked for atleast the first year and then stopped.  I eat pretty much the same thing for a week.

I bet you are busy with school.  I am a stress and bored eater.  That is hard to overcome, but we can do it!!

Thank you for this discussion.

I agree with the others about maintenance.  It is much easier post WLS when we follow our programs.

I'll start with the struggle first because it is what first came to mind.  My greatest aggravation is when I get to goal I have this internal reset that says "YAY...now you can have that candy bar, milk shake, potato chips, etc..."  That is what happened this past week.  And of course I bounce back up.  My recent drop which took me to goal is once again gone.  Why do I do that?

Victory...nothing comes to mind.  I stopped my walking deciding to take it easy a little longer.  I will say my gut is finally starting to settle down again.  It took almost 4 weeks to the day.  I am glad I am feeling more normal in that regard.  I guess my victory is although I bounced back due to bad behavior, I did not bounce all the way back up.

Dasie,
I know what you mean rewarding yourself with food!!  I still have that mindset also.

Another victory is that you are feeling better!!  That was a major surgery and it has only been 4 weeks.

Hopefully you can get back to your walking soon.
