Maintenance Post
Ok, how is everyone doing since last week!!
I know we talk about how hard maintenance is, but I think it is not as hard as it could be if we didn't have our tools from WLS. It sounds like most of the trouble comes in when we stop following our programs that made us succesful and start adding little things back into our lives. I'm not saying we can never stray. We all have to have that special treat. Just don't let your special treat turn into an every day event. Sure we can all eat more the further out we get. Remember that protein first helps fill you up.
The majority of RNY people with a gain that I have read about have started drinking with their meals again. It is so easy to take that little sip.
So, what has been a victory for you this week?
What struggle have you had this week?
My victory this week was finding a great recipe for Chile Rellenos. Here is the link to that post and the recipe. http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/wls_lightweights/4539724/G reat-Recipe-Chile-Rellenos-Casserole/
It was absolutely delicious!!
I struggled this week with getting my exercise in. I had DGD#1 Friday night and should have gotten up Saturday morning to do my long run for the week and I skipped out. Needless to say it has been raining here since. I did get a DVD in Monday and did a short run/walk yesterday - but boy could I tell that I had not done anything much since last Thursday.
Together we can do this!!

I've had a great week. I was camping last weekend but took my food and did fine. I stuck to my 116 and saw 115 a couple of days. So I am going in the right direction. I'd still like to see 114 again.
Exercise hasn't been as consistant as I want. I have been getting the ponies worked and getting work stuff done but not so much walking and swimming. I need to plan better. there is a new class at the gym that uses big rubber band kinds of things hung from the ceiling. Suppose to be great for your core. I want to go watch one and see if I think I could do it with my knee.

I went to observe tonight and they let me sit in. Very interesting. The bands really aren't rubber, no stretch. They have 2 handles or foot holds. You lean your body away from the grounding point which is way above your head, so your body is the weight. There are standing and floor exercises. Closest thing I can compare it to is philoties (sp). Lots of core work which I am way weak in. I will sign up for the class but it doesn't start again until mid July. It's TRX and there are videos on line. Unlike Zumba and most of the other classes, there is a seperate charge for it but the instructor is really good and works with you so it is close to having a personal trainer with a lot less expense.

The bands are webbing and the class is TRX. I try to do one class/week. It is great for your core. There are a lot of squats and other various exercises, but they can be modified for each individual person. It is using your body weight as resistance. The difficulty can be adjusted by placement of you feet, which adjusts the steepness of the angle. More steep=more difficulty.
Good Luck!! I love TRX!!
OOPS. I didn't read down, before I posted.

Thanks for the post Linda! You are right!!! For me Maintenance is NOTHING like trying to keep off weight after dieting!!! To be honest....I don't have to struggle now because I have learned how I should eat so it's all about making good choices! I'm so thankful I have my tool to remind me when I've eaten to much and to keep the sweets under control.
I've had a really good week! I think I have beat the carb monster this time and I'm going to try my best not to fall back into that trap. It's not just about maintaining it's about feeling better, not being so gassy, and keeping the swelling down in my ankles. Carbs just are not good for me!!!!!

I've also noticed that the tire around my waist isn't as big either...I never would have guessed that the carbs would be responsible for so much of my bloating.

Hi Linda - Thanks for posting this.
Victory - Finally, I've been able to slightly increase some of the weights during training! After 3 months of having to move to easier and easier workouts, I did well today. Also, I've now dropped another pant size.
Struggle - Learning to eat some carbs to control RH (yes, it's helping a lot), without going into a carb feeding frenzy. I am a carbaholic - if I don't eat them, I don't crave them, but go into hypoglycemia - if I eat them, I can't stop.
I'm so glad that there is such support on this forum - I don't know what I'd do without it!!
