So, I am exactly 8 weeks out today. I stepped on the scale this morning and have only lost 40 pounds. I lost about 30 the first month and this second month have only lost about 10. I see so many people on here that have lost so much more and I keep beating myself up about it. For the lightweights, does the weight tend to come off slower since we don't have as much to lose. I am pretty sure that I am following my food guidelines. Still trying to get 60 grams of protein in daily. Usually a max of 60 carbs. Not drinking enough water on some days but trying my hardest.
Am I being totally paranoid?

Yep, you are being paranoid.
Just kidding but really, 40 lbs in 8 weeks is 5 lbs a week. If you lost 5 lbs every week, in 6 months you would be gone altogether.
We don't lose the number of pounds, but our percentage of weight lost compared to our excess weight is usually about the same. Don't compare yourself to others. You didn't gain it overnight and you won't lose it overnight. But chances are, if you keep on keeping on, around the 1 yr mark if not before, you will be at goal.
Most of us like getting around 100g of protein (if not more) and keep our carbs under 100 ( I like mine under 50).
Welcome to the LW board. We are different, that's why we are here.

Thank you ladies! With the amount of food that I take in, 100g of protein seems impossible. I am sure that I will get there. At my 6 week, they told me that I should try to get all of my protein in without supplements! That seems next to impossible.
If I were to throw in another protein drink for a snack and get close to 100g, would that slow my weightloss? I know that I read somewhere that the more protein, the better. I just wouldn't want to strech my pouch with too much protein.

liquids are not going to stretch your pouch!!!!
Try adding another protein shake and it won't hurt you but don't expect to be losing much more than 10 lbs a month. It may keep you from stalling. I never stalled although my weight loss did slow down considerably at 5 months.
So groups do want you to get all your protein from food. If you look at the folks on this board who have been successful long term, many of the are still, sometimes years out, using protein suppliments. For me, I couldn't keep my protein level up without suppliments. I do at least 3 a day, sometimes 4. Although I really believe in following the rules, sometimes you have to make your own decisions about what is best for you. My group would have me never eating more than 1/2c at a meal even at 20 months out. I have found what works for me and they have seen the results and are ok with it.

Hi!
I think you are doing GREAT! I am not a Vet here, but will be a year out July 6th.
I was told at about 6 months out to try and get all my protein from food. The NUT suggests 60-80 gms protein and no more. I lose better, and I think feel better when I am 80-100 gms protein. When I was losing (I'm at goal), my carbs were usually 60-70 day, and low calories. I track my food for that at myfitnesspal.com. I still have 1 - 2 "shakes" daily to keep those totals up. I have the sleeve, not RNY, but I just cannot get enough "dense" protein like meats, etc, in at a time to get my protein intake that high. Volume wise if it is protein (like steak, roast - not ground meat) 2 oz, maybe a little more; other foods maybe closer to a 1/2 cup to a cup. Now that I am maintaining, I am having more veggies, fruits and whole grains (some bad stuff too - ugh), but mostly I am trying to eat healthy to get a lot of good nutrients in. During the losing part, protein, protein, protein.
Also, I have noticed, that if I didn't get in all my water/fluids 64 oz or more per day, it seemed like I would retain water. Especially now that it is getting hot and humid - just a thought. Keep the fluids going and that always seems to help get weight off too. Also, I have noticed that I get a headache, and feel very lightheaded if I don't get my fluids in - so be careful.
Take care and you are doing great! don't compare yourself to anyone else.

You're doing great! If you look at my signature line, you'll see that I lost about 30 lbs during the first two months combined, and I still made my goal. So relax and follow the plan.
As for the protein, I'm pretty active, and do weight training, so my protein requirements may be higher. I was just shy of 60 grams of protein from 5-8 months, and developed a protein deficiency that my doc discovered at my 6 month labs. They told me to add a second shake to my diet, and since then, I've been in the 80-100 range with a target of 100. That has really improved my muscle tone hair and nail growth. My protein level was OK at the 9 month labs I had drawn a month ago. I eat lots of protein foods, and could not get all that in without at least one shake every day.
You might up your protein to give yourself a little buffer.

If I had to give my best advice for losing weight and keeping it off (so far for me at least) it is 100 grams of protein and 100 oz of fluids at least every day. I don't think I have talked to one person who wasn't happy with their weight loss when doing that. I know it is hard. Protein shakes gagged me in the beginning but I was determined and I learned to love them. Well, not love them but tolerate them a lot better.
Drinking a protein shake does double duty in giving you fluids as well as protein. Check out Bariatric Foodie and Eggface for some good high protein recipes including shakes and ice cream.

I checked my tracker, and at 8 weeks I had lost 34 pounds from my surgery weight. You are doing better than I. I also hit my first stall at roughly 3 weeks post op.
You are going to do great. It is obvious you are trying very hard and following the rules. Be encouraged and enjoy the journey. Because I was older when I had surgery and knew I would be a slower loser, I did not buy a scale. I did not want one in my house because I knew I would live on it and the emotional roller coaster would be too much to deal with on a day to day basis. You are actually doing great.
