Newbie Wanting Some Help??

Hello!

I am relatively new to the board.  Just found the lightweight forum just now.  I think I qualify - had my RNY at 260 lbs.
I know you all must be getting sick of this issue being brought up so often but I am hoping you can reassure me that all is ok or give me some good advice.

I had my RNYsurgery on March 20th, 2012.  It was a revision from lap band.   The first month I lost 23 lbs.  Second month 8 lbs and next week will mark my 3rd month and I am down 8 lbs more for a total of 36 lbs.  I know I shouldn't compare to others but its tough to not think I might be doing something wrong.

I am getting in around 60 grams protein a day.  Just learned about Syntrax and ordered the sample packs - going to try to up the protein to 80 if I can.

I am getting in around 45 oz of water each day

I am excercising 3 days a week which I know I should up.  As soon as my kids are in camp I will make more time to get it in daily.

I don't do any white carbs.  Trying to really keep it high in protein.  Typical day for me is Fage yogurt with pomegrate seeds for breakfast.  string cheese for a snack.  grilled chicken salad for lunch.  tonight for dinner I had the famous Nik's taco casserole.  I don't go over 800 cal a day.

I am also taking all of my vitamins.

So, with all this said, I am so worried I won't loose the weight I need to.  I'm at 224 right now and I want to get to 140.  At this pace I am worried it won't happen.  Worried that the honeymoon will be over before I get there.  I guess worried in general.  Any advice from the experts, the veterans, anyone in my shoes or was in my shoes, in a similar way would be very much appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the LW Board.

Your weight loss sounds good.  I would try to increase your protein to atleast over 90 grams a day and up your water/fluids to atleast 64 at a minimum.  Adding in protein drinks will help with both of these.

You still have plenty of time to lose the weight.  I have heard that sometimes revisions lose a little bit slower, but I'm not sure if that is true or not.

You are not drinking with meals are you?  Be sure you don't do that and you wait 30-45 minute after you eat to drink anything.

Good luck and can't wait to watch your progress!!

Welcome to the LW forum...you and my husband have the same surgeon...he had the DS.

I agree with Linda...up your protein to at least 90 grams and get your fluids to a MINIMUM of 64 oz a day...any less and you can get dehydrated.

And tell Dr. Pomp hello from us...I wanted him as my surgeon but my insurance would not allow me out of state.

Everyone gave good advice...from what I have seen increasing
your protein early out may help speed up the weight loss.
Aim for 90 grams...eventually you can get higher. What you
are eating is great...add a protein shake or two and you
will do awesome....keep reading and posting!!

Thank you so much ladies! I will try upping the protein and water intake. All protein shakes have made me sick so I'm hoping the syntax might do the trick. I'm not drinking during meals at all.

Yes, dr pomp is wonderful! He is the best. So lucky to be in his care.

I am so grateful to be on this message board with you all. I will check in soon to let you know if I can speed things up! Thank you for the good advice and encouragement!

I can TOTALLY understand protein making you sick...I had no problems til just recently (had jaw surgery) and now, NONE of them smell right (they all smell bad to me)..so I just pretend it's medicine and drink anyway.

Vitalady has sample packs so that you don't buy a big container and then not like it...try there for small samples.

Welcome to the LWs.  sounds like you are doing great.  however, I agree, get your protein up and you may need some more calories, which would be good to get from the protein powder.  the shakes will help your fluid intake and your protein.  Read out miles and menus and you can get an idea how some of us are eating to be successful.  Join in and get some hints.  Remember we all lose at our own rate.  Just keep on keeping on and you will get there.
