I really want to try the protein ice cream that I've been hearing about.  Any suggestions on which ice cream maker to buy?

I have a Cuisinar.  Have never had any other kind so I can't do much compairing.  You have to freeze the liner  before using it.  It takes a while and takes up a good amount of space.  If you don't have a big freezer, it would be a problem.  It works really fast once everything is set up.  You lose a certain amount because it freezes to the wall of the liner and you can't get it out.  that was kind of frustraing to me.

I did about the same thing by making pudding and adding protein powder to it and freezing it.

I'll have to try the pudding in the freezer.

i used a 4 serving box of SF pudding mix, and more than 2 cups of milk, like a extra 1/2 c or so.  Mixed the pudding and put it in 4 containers, then added 1 scoop of protein to each one and mixed well.  so I could use a vanilla pudding and make 4 kinds of frozen stuff depending on the flavor of protein and SF syurps used.  they end up freezing hard as a brick bat so best to get one out of the freezer before you want to start on it.  then it is kind of creamy from the pudding, creamier than ice cream made with milk but still has some crystals.  Anyway, it met my need and I did it quite a lot last summer.

I also have the cuisinart. It was on an instant coupon at Costco last month. Used a recipe on the eggface blog. I'm going to try making up my own tomorrow night. It starts with a protien shake that you blend until frothy. Check out the search feature on "the world according to egg face" great instructions. here's the link http://www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ happy freezing.

I have the cuisinart as well - I tend to do a shake at a time. It seems to work best for me when I take it out of the cannister before it's quite frozen and put in a tupperware type thing in the freezer for an hour or so. As to why I don't just start by putting it in the freezer - the mix-ins work better in the cuisinart, and it gets fluffier than just mixing and freezing.

Linda (lerkhart) used to make ice cream all of the time but I don't know what maker she used.

I tried and failed.  I bought several different kinds of makers but It seemed like a lot of work for such a little amount of ice cream.

I borrowed a Cusinart from a co-worker.  I still have it.  You have to freeze the cylinder ahead of time.  It would crust up on the sides and I would sit it in warm water to get all the ice cream off the sides.  Put it in a tupperware container and put in freezer.  I would microwave for just a little bit to thaw it enough to get a serving out because it freezes really hard.

I hardly ever make it anymore.  I just make a protein drink w/ Hood Calorie Count down milk and add ice to that and blend in my magic bullet - much less clean up and really good....
