Maintenance - Victories & Struggles for the week
Some of you thought you might like a post to help us with our maintenance portion of this new life we have all been given. Of course anyone pre-op, still losing or in maintenance is more than welcome to share their victories and struggles for the week with us. We might can help you also!!
What have been your victories this past week?
What have been your stuggles?
If you would like, please share what you think helps to make you succesful(even if you are not feeling successful right this moment).
Guess I will go first.
Victories - I have exercised more this past week. Really eliminated most of the late night snacking. I think I only had one really bad night.
Struggles - Snacks at work - we had popcorn day Friday for the kids and the whole building smelled like popcorn. Luckily I had to travel and was not here for most of it.
There are a couple of things that help me. One is listing my foods on Roz's Menus and Miles every day. I hate to have to journal my food, so this is a way for me to keep up with what I eat and I can look back over them to find a pattern if I need to. Of course, I have to remember to update this if I change what I have listed or fini**** at the end of the day.
I am a daily weigher. It really helps me stay accountable. I also post on Liz's weekly weigh in. Makes me look back at the prior week and see how the week went. I can't let it go because that is what I did in the past. I stopped weighing and when I finally did weigh I would be so disguisted I would give up. No more!!
Staying connected here with all of you because I don't have a support group close by. I know we all get busy and life gets very exciting after you lose your weight, but try to stay connected to a support group. I appreciate Gina's post every morning and look forward to getting up and seeing what she has to say to us!!
Thanks everyone - who is next???

I love this post.
I really do not like bringing up my surgery a few weeks ago because I'm trying to get past it all. I realized yesterday I'm actually a tad depressed. I love to walk..I sincerely enjoy it. But since surgery, I am having occasional very short pains that are keeping me from feeling normal again. I walked 2 miles the other day, but by the time I rounded a corner, I knew I needed to stop.
My eating has been horrible. I have gotten completely off track allowing everything and anything unhealthy to pass through my mouth. Several pieces of pie and several candy bars in one day. I have not done that since my original WLS - with the exception of the holidays. The complication took the joy out of my journey. It has colored everything. I guess that is my struggle.
My Victory is I am still coming here. Like Linda, I do not have a s upport system outside of all you guys. There were a few days I did not want to log in, but I made myself do it. At one point I was down 7 pounds from a few weeks ago. I have gained 5 back. So I suppose another victory is I did not gain all 7 pounds back. I need to make sure I do not gain it all back.

Dasie,
You had major surgery, maybe 2 miles was too much for your body at this point. Try to take it slower and ease back into your exercise routine. I know sometimes I try to push myself and my body pushes back.
It is so easy to get off track with our food and especially when our emotions are out of whack. I hope you can get your joy of your success back because you have done an amazing job with your WLS.
I'm sure you will get the 5 pounds back off - you are still coming here - hooray!!!
Let us know if we can help you.

Hi Linda!
Victories: I have started a new workout routine. There's a gym here at work, so I pack up my stuff the night before, get outta bed - grab a cuppa joe and do the 45 min drive to work. Since I'm leaving earlier in the morning, the traffic isn't as bad either. When I get here - I exercise, shower (yep have one here) and walk to my cubie. I figured its ok for me to start a little later than normal - seems I was getting here early anyway and putting in 10 hour days on a regular basis. Today was my first day. Few tweaks to the routine - and I'm good to go! It felt awsome!
Struggle: The guys I work with eat out EVERY day for lunch. One of them went to Costco and bought me a 4 lb bag of individual bite size chocolate candies - the good Reeses, Kisses, candy bars - OMG! I made him put them in HIS cube - but I did go find them yesterday.
I have started weighing daily too. I would go several weeks and it kinda freaked me out. Although I'm not liking what I see - I got fat by ignoring it before - can't do that anymore - MUST stay accountable to myself.
Going to support group with Gina tonight - topic is Maintenance and I'm REALLY looking forward to what they have to say!

Way to go Jody!! Congratulations on getting up early and doing that exercise. I used to get up at 5:45 and go to the gym, then back home to shower and get ready for work. I really enjoy exercising in the morning better because it makes you feel better the entire day. But, I have a hard time getting up early enough.....(lazy).
We used to eat out everyday together here. When I had my WLS, I knew I had to stop that because I have so much less control when I get to a restaurant. I try to not eat out more than 2-3 times a week now. Saved lots of money!! If you can make good choices it is probably ok for you, I just couldn't do that. The candy gets me at work too. They told me where they keep it and some afternoons it is calling my name so loud.
I look forward to hearing about your meeting tonight. Let us know if you get any great tips.

Linda - it really was a "no-brainer" I don't get up any earlier than I was before - I just start work about a half hour later - which is ok and taking that extra half hour for myself. It's just too easy - don't know why I didn't do it earlier. Now I just get up, put on my workout clothes and head out the door. If I DON'T do it - I'm just downright lazy...

I find great victory in not taking ANY medications anymore and now feeling so healthy. For years I was so very ill and lethargic. The struggles have been that I tend to eat lots of chocolate in binges!
I like this post as it reminds me of my conformation kids Highs and lows for the week. That we do and that they love to share. Jeff
