HIDA Scan Tomorrow
I do hope you find out what is causing you pain. HIDA scans find out alot of gallbladder problems that are missed by ultrasound and so many doctors dont know to order it. I have recommended that test to so many post ops over the past 4 years and so many come back and say that there doctors dont use that test since the ultra sound is fine = that is the point - the ultrasound is fine, so you need to find out if it is functioning even though there are no stones. I am very glad you got a doctor to order this test. It is the gold standard of gallbladder tests.
I had my gallbladder out in 2004 after losing 80 pounds on my own. I had gone for 4 or 5 ultrasounds over a 2 year period due to terrible pains and horrific nausau over the years. They kept saying it was just sludge. Finally, after some time, the said I had 1 stone. They did a HIDA scan and it was borderline and still didnt want to operate since it wasnt that bad and said to wait 3 months if things continue to get worse - then they will send me to the surgeon. In 2 months, I was getting worse, they sent me for another ultrasound and I had 9 stones (my gastro couldnt believe they had grown so fast) so they sent me to the surgeon and by time I got to surgery (- I had to have my preop testing, get scheduled )- took another few weeks - and by time I was on the operating table - I had 25 stones - mine grew unbelieveably fast. they dont know if it was because I had years of slude that just solidified or if there were more all the time but they couldnt all be seen and they were blocked from all my fat. But no matter what the reason, I now had 25 stones that had to come out along with the gallbladder and they were amazed that nothing was causing an obstruction of any of the bile ducts which would have been emergency surgery. I was very lucky.
