Lots of new members on lately so here are some intro questions

1.  What was your biggest fear when you were considering WLS?

2.  What is your biggest concern now, where you are in the process today?

3.  What has been your greatest victory to date?

4.  What do you still have on your plate to deal with?

me first

1.  Regain was my biggest fear.  I wasn't concerned about surgery, been there done that a lot.  I knew I could get through all that.  I had been able to lose weight although it had gotten harder to lose less weight, but I alway gained it back.  I knew I could lose, just didn't know if I could maintain.

2.  Biggest concern now is still regain.  Maintainance seems much harder that the weight loss was.  I am a rule follower so following the rules in the beginning was much easier than making up a plan that allows me to feel "normal" but not gain back what I have lost.

3.  Greatest victory was getting off all my meds.  I'm in great health.  At the same time, I have to admit, I love all the positive attention for how I look now.  Shopping is fun and it sure wasn't before.

4.  What is still on my plate?  My knee is getting better but I still feel like I have to be careful.  I am getting stronger but want it faster than it is happening.  And I have gone back to weighing and measuring and logging my intake while I keep working at this maintainance thing.

Wow - these are hard questions for Post-Op-Me.

1. What was your biggest fear when you were considering WLS?  I really didn't think too far ahead when I was considering WLS - I just wanted to get the weight off.

2. What is your biggest concern now, where you are in the process today?  Keeping it off.  Maintenance is HARD.  You want to be normal, but you really can't be (to an extent)

3. What has been your greatest victory to date?  Victory - hmmm.. I've had many... hard to pic the best - but the one I seem to remember the most is flying in airplanes now, can cross my legs and not die when I bend over to reach the stuff under the seat in front of me.

4. What do you still have on your plate to deal with?  Maintenance.  I need to get back to basics and start logging my food.  Hard to do.  Tonight I made chicken in the crockpot with 2 different kind of soups, mushrooms, and thickened it up.  How do I measure that?  I've gotten out of the habit - had I stayed in the groove of measuring my food - it wouldn't be an issue now.

1.  What was your biggest fear when you were considering WLS?

I don't remember having a fear about surgery really. I think my attitude was more like Jody's, I was just looking forward to getting the weight off. Maybe I wasn't sure if WLS was too good to be true--but I only had a fleeting moment when I thought I might it try it the hard way one more time.

2.  What is your biggest concern now, where you are in the process today?

That I haven't retrained myself hard enough to stay low carb and that maybe even low carbing won't help me to keep the weight off. I know I eat way more carbs that I should if I were more disciplined.

3.  What has been your greatest victory to date?  That red bikini pic!  lol

4.  What do you still have on your plate to deal with?  Keeping my DS system in line. I have to work to keep the gas under control but I think I'm doing a pretty good job of it. No issues at work or in important situations. The only ones that know I struggle with it are my hubby and son. I'm hoping as my DS matures the issue will become less and less. Some DSrs have none of theses issues--it's just me with my Celiac and sensitive gut.

Hi Price, I missed Friday so I guess Saturday answering is ok-LOL!!

1.  What was your biggest fear when you were considering WLS?  That it wouldn't work and I would be a failure again!!

2.  What is your biggest concern now, where you are in the process today?  Maintenance and keep the weight off and staying in the best shape I can for my age.

3.  What has been your greatest victory to date?  That is a hard one since I feel like I have had so many.  Here are a couple.  Of course losing the weight, being so much more healthy, RUNNING, one of the best things has been meeting everyone on this board and making such great friends.  I love being able to play with my granddaughters and do things I could only wish I could do in the past.
I love it when we hire someone new that never knew me before and when they find out that I used to be really big - they are like "no way."  We have a picture at work that we show them.  I think my co-workers are proud of me too!!

4.  What do you still have on your plate to deal with?  I worry about having an injury and not being able to be active and then regain.

1. I had a dual fear pre-op: first, that I'd be the person it wouldn't work for.  I'd lose maybe 40-50 pounds, and then gain it all back.  Second, that it WOULD all come back, and I'd have had major surgery for nothing.  Then of course, there was the panic as they prepped me.  If they'd taken 5 more minutes, I would have backed out!

2. Biggest concern now is maintenance.  How many calories do I actually NEED to maintain myself?  That answer seems to be different than the assumptions you find based on age/gender/weight/activity, so I'm glad I'm now doing something proactive to track what I'm actually doing/consuming/burning.

3. Movement!  My osteo-arthritis still exists, but I can move so much better!  I'm always up-down-around, and it feels GOOD!  I'm actually trying to start running after years of being unable to because of damaged knees!

4. The head.  I know what my issues in my head are, but they're sneaky and keep creeping back in.  I need to keep them under control in order to maintain.

1.  What was your biggest fear when you were considering WLS?
With the first WLS my biggest fear was that it wouldn't happen, something would come up and stop me from having it.  Then of course I was afraid of regaining, that I was the only person who failed a DS.
With the second surgery I was afraid I would die or be handicapped because of the surgery and I wouldn't be able to take care of my child.  I was afraid it wouldn't help me get better.

2.  What is your biggest concern now, where you are in the process today?
My biggest concerns now are that I can stick with what I am doing long term.  It works for now but I
know how I am and I don't know if or when I will throw in the towel and just decide to eat whatever I want, whenever I want, in the amounts I want.  That has always been what happened in the past when I lost weight so I know what I am dealing with.

3.  What has been your greatest victory to date?
Lot's of victories.  Riding my bike for 2 hours.  Wearing the same clothes from one year to the next.  Going out with my daughter to a neighborhood event and staying the whole time.  Getting dressed most days.  My biggest victory, though, has to be staying sugar free and gluten free for nearly 2 years!

4.  What do you still have on your plate to deal with?
My energy still isn't where I want it to be.  That may be because of age and menopause but my biggest wish for this surgery was to get my energy back and to be like I was before i ever had WLS.
