Can you help me?

Hi LW Friends,

I am in need of advice...I took a bad fall a couple years ago while visiting my friends in their new home.  The end result was I broke my ankle and now two years later I found out I have a torn tendon in my arm and a some calcification in the shoulder...I landed on my arm when I fell..it was xrayed but at that time,  it wasnt broken.  I need advice as to what meds I can use for pain?  I had a DS a couple years ago and have done well with my weight loss.  My PCP is sending me to specialist so we can decide what is the best course of action.  Any advice on Pain Meds and Anti Inflamitories would be helpful!!  Thank you.

I would contact your surgeon to be on the safe side. I have chronic arthritis and had to change the medicine that I was taking for that. I only take Tylenol as a OTC drug. We have to be very careful so check with them and the pharmacist. They should be able to give you educated instruction. Sorry if this doesn't help, but it's best to be safe.

Cathie,

The nice thing about the DS is that we CAN take NSAIDS!!! You will need a PPI as well to protect your stomach but we can take them. Just be careful and don't overdo them (as in exceed the dose recommended by your doctor).

Sorry you have issues but at least you can take any pain med needed.

Liz

Trameel is a great homeopatic remedy that isn't an NSAID so you can use it with no problem.  Probably get it at a health food store.

Sorry you are in pain.  My surgeon said I could take tramadol if I needed it.  It won't help with inflammation but it's a good painkiller with a low side effect.  It is extended release but is tolerated well by WLS patients according to my doc.  However, it can be habit forming so if you have those kind of issues avoid long term use.  Good luck.  Tell us what you end up taking.  Inquiring minds want to know!
